Atlantic firearms has a huge selection of VEPR AKs... what makes VEPR different then standard AK? besides the "Saiga like" furniture? just curious... Johnny

to me a better quality built ak type variant from the factory than saiga/arsenal

how would a thicker receiver make it better... for the casual shooter? are they milled or a thicker stamped receiver?

Thicker stamping, along with the proper RPK trunion.... atiffer than a standard 1 mm, withkut the weight penalry of a milled.Good barrels.
Downside? Price comlared to a Saiga and they bave slant cut rears- complicatea conversions for standard furniture. Atill, a good rifle IMHO.

my 308 vepr had a very smooth action. It had at least one receiver reinforcing pin that regular AK's didn't have. The receiver exhibited a better finish. Its barrel contour was a little lighter than a Saiga 308. It required a special hammer to clear the cross pin. The rear sight is finger adjustable for windage. The magazines were proprietary, but very nice. Accuracy was 1.75 MOA out to 200 meters. It liked federal blue box 150 gr.

I ordered a VEPR in 5.45 this week. I was torn between an Arsenal Saiga and the VEPR, but the VEPR has this look that appeals to me, and everything I read on them indicates they are rock solid rifles. Unfortunately, looks like I'm buying in as the price of surplus 5.45 is going up.

that 5.45 vepr will be a solid rifle. I would try the Hornady stuff through it or possible silver bear.

I ordered 750 rounds of 60 gr Silver Bear to start. From the little bit of searching I've done, seems like military surplus, Silver Bear and the Hornady are just about it as far as available ammo for the 5.45. I've got a buddy who's been looking for Golden Tiger with no luck.

They're heavy guns. Much heavier than a standard AK. Heavier weight = less felt recoil.
