CZ 452 or Ruger 10/22?????

I have the 10/22 already, fitted with a .920 Green Mountain 18" barrel, good scope & the nice Sporter stock. It's not outstandingly accurate, but I can do 1" groups at 30yds all day with cheap bulk ammo. However, a friend of mine has expressed an interest in trading for his standard CZ452. I know it's boringly accurate, I've shot ragged hole 10-shot groups with it at 50yds myself.
I primarily use my .22s (I have others, as should we all!) for plinking & pest control & the 10/22 is more than up to the task, although it's heavy to carry around skwerl hunting.
I like the fact that I can get off 10 aimed, but not perfect shots in about 5 seconds, but I also like the fact that with the 452, I simply wouldn't need to.

I also like to really stretch out my .22s at the range & see what I & they can do. I don't target shoot as such, but I really enjoy plinking at 300+ yards (Just for poops & giggles)

The 10/22 is a LOT of fun, but heavy & imprecise.
The 452 is a LOT more accurate & lighter, but may not make me giggle like a 9 year old.

What would YOU do & why?
 
Man, I would make that trade in a heartbeat.

I just like bolt .22s (especially ones like the CZ) much more than the 10/22. If it wasn't my first rifle, I would have sold my 10/22 long ago. I just enjoy it less than every single other .22 I have.
 
Ideally, you'd have both, as they're each perfect for different tasks. But it sounds like your custom 10/22 is either overbuilt, or it underperforms, so I'd do the trade, then spend a few bucks to pick up a basic no-frills 10/22.
 
I like rapid fire plinking at cans with a .22 as much as the next guy, but if I had to make a choice I'd pick my 452 over my semi-auto .22.
 
Not for a standard CZ. If it were the 452 American or Varmit then I'd trade. You can sell your used customized Ruger for enough to buy one of the standard CZ models and have money left over. I'd do that or come up with a few more dollars and just buy a CZ and keep the Ruger.

CZ's shoot pretty well as a whole. My 452 American will match my custom Ruger, but not beat it. And you never know when you are buying rifles. One of my box stock 10-22's actually out shoots both my heavy barreld custom 10-22 and the CZ. None of my other 10-22's come close. Go figure!

Personally as I get older I have little use for rifles that are not accurate. I get zero joy out of blasting a bunch of ammo, spraying shots across the country side, just turning money into noise. I have a CZ .22 Varminter. Exceptionally nice rifle IMO

In the end, you have to do what makes YOU happy, not a bunch of strangers on the internet. Still, if you didn't already know the answer you wouldn't ask the question.

I have 4 452's and 1 455. The 455 shoots as well as 2 of the 452's and better than the other two. Fit and finish is just as good if not better on the 455. I would make the trade Robtattoo was offered in a heartbeat.
 
I have both a 10/22 Target and a CZ452 Varmint. The CZ WILL out shoot the 10/22 but not by THAT much. A decently set up 10/22 should shoot ragged 1 hole groups at 50yds. I'd say the trigger is the limiting factor. If your 10/22 dosn't work for you do the trade or work on tuning the 10/22...I'd start with a trigger and sear upgrade.
 
I dont have a CZ , but do have two Ruger 10-22's and a Savage MKII GVXP...I would get rid of the 10-22's before I would ever think of letting go of the Savage. I am getting rid of a .308 Tikka Lite to get another Savage ( FV-SR ) or CZ.
 
I have a 10/22 with a tactical solutions barrel and I polished the trigger myself to about 4lbs. I have a cheap REDHead scope from Bass Pro shops and can consistenly heat clay targets with it at 230 yards. I do not know why yours is not performing as it can. Regardless the CZ is a great rifle. If it were my deal I would not trade my 10/22 but since it is yours go for the CZ.
 
CZ for sure.

You can always build a better 10/22 for your uses later, they're literally everywhere.
 
TRADE! at least, I would... On second thought... I would not have bought the 10/22 (even to modify, I just don't really like them, not that they are bad or anything like that, just not my style), I would have started with a CZ, but if I had a 10/22, and that trade presented itself to me, I would do it in a heartbeat.

I'd trade your 10/22 for the CZ regardless of which model 452 it is. You already know it shoots very well and that is what really matters anyway. Besides, the accuracy you're getting from your 10/22 sounds like it's lacking a little, especially with a heavy GM barrel. I would expect to get that level of accuracy or a little better from a stock 10/22.

One of my box stock 10-22's actually out shoots both my heavy barreld custom 10-22 and the CZ. None of my other 10-22's come close. Go figure!

jmr40, After owning numerous CZ's and more 10/22's than I can remember I can say that stock 10/22 of yours must be really exceptional, unless you have a "bum" CZ, which would be a rare thing in itself. What model and year 10/22 is it? Will it outshoot them with a variety of ammo or just with it's "pet" brand? The CZs that I have owned would, with any brand or type of ammo I ran through them, still outshoot every stock 10/22 I've ever owned, shooting it's favorite ammo.

I have had both and sold the CZ within the last year. While the CZ was a higher grade gun, I realized that I just didn't enjoy shooting a bolt gun as much as an autoloader.

Most of my .22 shooting is steel silouettes in speed events. Needless to say an autoloader that is accurate enough is way faster than a bolt that is even more accurate.

I actually find myself moving away from all bolt guns. In fact the several that I still own will probably be trading off this week. I find there isn't much you can't do with a good example of a M1, M1A, AR, and 10/22.

My current thought is the only bolt gun I would really like to have would be something along the lines of a Barrett or Sako in 338 Lapua.
 
You said you like shooting .22's long range, thats CZ territory. Go for the CZ.

If you miss your auto loader then pick another one up. After all the are truly everywhere. Maybe that new break down backpacking version Ruger put out a bit ago. That 10/22 actually looks pretty cool.
 
imo the cz 452 is one of the best buys in .22lr, i loved everyone i have had and still have. that being said i couildnt imagine being with a 10/22 in the safe. best option is to keep the gun you have and save up and buy the other. your talking about 2 differnt guns all together so no need to compare just get both.
