I tried CCI's CB 22 Longs in my CZ 452 Varmit 22 LR a couple of weeks ago at 25 yards and gave up on even sighting the rifle in. The groups were all over the place like a shotgun pattern on a large target. Is this normal for the 452 when single loading the 22 Long cartridge CB's? The cartridges seemed to cycle well through the magazine fine when I did that. Could it be that the bullets are not long enough since they are 22 short bullets in a Long case? I haven't tried regular 22 shorts, 22 short CB's, or the new 22 Long Rifle Remington CB's for accuracy yet.

Most people using lever action guns like the Henrys and Winchesters do not seem to have problems. Could it be that my 452 chamber is really not made to chamber a short or long cartridge as well and shoot accurately like a LR?

chamber

I am not sure of the different chamber, but the CZ 452 is chambered for Long Rifle only and the Marlin 39 is chambered for short, long and long rifle.

I would also suggest visiting rimfirecentral.com. You are sure to find your answer there.

typical

I have generally found that the CB Long is not as accurate as standard LR ammo. I considered using it to hunt squirrels in the back yard but it was not accurate enough in my Ruger 10/22 Rifle for head shots like standard LR ammo.

Some rimfires simply don't shoot a particular round well. I have read that the accuracy is often better with the CB Longs over the CB Shorts. But it is a rifle specific kind of thing and it appears your 452 just doesn't like them. How does it do with Long Rifles?

I can usually shoot dime sized groups at 50 yards with decent subsonic 40 grain 22 LR Remington or Winchester ammo. I don't mess with match ammo because it is too expensive for fun shooting at the range. The high velocity 22 LR stuff can get a tad larger group at 50 yards.

i haven't messed with CB Longs, but my Rem 552 loves the CB shorts, and can get good enough accuracy at 100yds with regular shorts.

CB longs have a 29 grain bullet, far too light for good accuracy in a rifle with a twist for the long rifle cartridge with 40 grain bullets. They are fun close range cartridges, but don't expect much accuracy from them. Your results are somewhat normal, although all rifles are a little different.

I am starting to think if I want to get quiet with this gun I will just have to put a good supppressor it.

I am surprised that other rifles get better accuracy at 25 yards by quite a bit than my shotgun pattern with CB Longs out of the CZ 452.

Your results are average/normal. The CB's aren't that accurate. Your rifle, with decent ammo will spoil you. I have a CZ452 "American" that with high quality match ammo will shoot small one-hole groups at 50yds, and under 1" at 100yds. Particularily, Federal Gold Medal Match (the old stuff with dimpled base) and Fiocchi Match will shoot under 0.3" at 50yds.

Whereas, the CB's will shoot 1-2" at 25yds. I do, however, use the CB's from a couple of S&W revolvers for close range pest destruction. At 15-20feet, they do the job they're intended to do.
