Was there the other day, was looking at a 1911 and a redhawk 454c. Prices were 30-40 less then sportsmans warehouse. Is it the same product just cheaper due to a bulk purchase?

I wish the Walmarts around here sold guns.

The funny answer would be to say they're made in China. They're not, the guns are just like ones you can buy elsewhere for more money. BTW, I don't believe you can buy/order handguns from Wally Worlds in the lower 48.

What few WM's around here have guns again (they took them out for years) do not sell/order handguns.

Wal-Mart only sells, "hunting firearms for sporting purposes" here, so no handguns at all.

I'm going down to Wally World and order a "Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter."
It does fall under the category of a "Hunting Firearm for Sporting Purposes." So they should have no problem selling me one, eh? ;)

I though ALL Wal-Marts stopped selling handguns in the 1980s. Our local Super store has always carried long guns and ammo but stopped selling handguns a long time ago.

I bought a .22 rifle there years ago and after all the red tape I swore I would never buy another one from them. I have a CHL which precludes all the NICS stuff but they said they didn't care. They had their policy and that was that. I'd rather support the local LGS anyway. A lot more friendly and knowledgable.

Same here. Back in the 80s, Walmarts in Texas carried handguns and I bought a Rossi 511 Sportsman 22 revolver from them I really liked. It got stolen in a house burglary, found another used at a gun show and bought it. It's even more accurate than the first one I had. Sure miss the handgun display at Wallyworld. Only one Walmart in Corpus has guns, let alone handguns.

Walmarts in my area don't sell any type of guns. Well, I guess they sell airsoft & perhaps paintball, but no firearms.

I've been to nearly a dozen walmarts that sell guns, in Arizona, Washington state, and Florida; but none of those ever sold handguns. Where does the OP live?

Edit: Just noticed the OP's username. Good news for me :D

I'll bet he lives in Alaska.

I remember when my local Walmart sold handguns. They had a few in a glass case and would order anything at a price the LGS usually couldn't match. A few years ago, I asked why they stopped and was told the upper management didn't want anything to do with handguns or "tactical" style weapons. However, I now see they are selling AR's. I'd suspect that sooner or later at least the ordering of handguns will come back.

I overheard a manager giving a bunch of new hires a little rundown on the sporting goods section a few weeks ago and she mentioned that AK was the only state to carry handguns in Walmart stores.

A couple of the new employees looked a little uncomfortable around the firearms and she went on a 5 minute spiel about how how guns are tools, and if treated properly are nothing to be afraid of. Then she mentioned the .22 she bought her grand daughter. I was more than a little surprised.

When I was a kid (in 45) Walmarts in the midwest sold handguns; now they (and others) are too 'family friendly' to sell them...

(I do see their side of the liability coin, though, too...) :(

I hate buying anything from Wal-Mart.

I'm a small business owner and prefer to do business with other small business owners. Wal-Mart love to put us out of business.

The bright side is they will replace our jobs with $8.00 per hour cashier, stocking or greeter jobs.

Sorry for the rant.

What exactly does this have to do with handguns being sold at Walfarts? Absolutely nothing!

In answer to the OP's question,I did buy a handgun from WM once before they stopped selling them. It was a S&W Model 57 in .41 mag. Blued with checkered walnut grips and a 4" barrel. Price was $260+tax. It was the last really nice gun I got from WM. All the rest(there have been many) have had something wrong with them, either mechanically or cosmetically.

No guns of any kind at my Wal-Marts. Plenty of bullets, but no guns.

Explain the logic in that to me, please...we'll sell you any kind of bullets, but not guns. Heck, ain't it the bullets that kill people?! :banghead:

I don't think you could rob a gas station with a bullet. (well maybe in Mass, Chicago, and Kali):p

Weird. Handguns at WalMart. Not something I've ever seen.

I was buying some shells a few weeks ago (LGS was out of what I wanted, so I was forced to go there), and noted they did have a Sig 522 and Remington .223 AR along with the usually less scary bolt actions. I was suprised enough by that.

I've bought a few rifles from WM (Marlin 336, Henry H001, Ruger 10-22) and they didn't seem to be "scratch and dent" or have any other inferior components. These guns may have been the only "Made in the USA" products in the entire store. I had no more red tape than buying anywhere else. Buying ammo there is often a pain. It takes 1/2 hour to find someone to help you and then the associate has to spend 1/2 hour tracking down the elusive "key" that will open the glass case.

Walmart here used to sell everything from glocks to chief's specials and a whole lot in between. Liability killed that.

why would walmart still sell them in alaska? walmart works off of volume you would think the market wouldnt be big enough for them to bother
