Ive been ho humming over the K31...then the Iranian Mauser, CZ manufactured, has caught my eye. Which is better, and why? What do I do!!!:)

never shot or even handled a K31, but I do love me some mausers.
Go with the Persian.

I have 3-8mm's and 2-7mm's

German M98 - duv-41
Yugo M24/47 - Sabov 44
Yugo M48 - Prejuduce 44
Spanish - Oviedo 1931 carbine M95
Spanish - Oviedo 1932 Long Rifle M93

Persians are among the nicest mausers ever made.

I know! Sexy as hell, this thing has all the Farsi markings and whatnot. Take a look at gun auction.com, item number 11198593 of which I'm the current high bidder. Out bid me, and I'll whoop ya!

Is that on Gunbroker? Don't worry about me bidding on anything right now. If I get another gun anytime soon, I may wake up to the wife using it on me.;)

P.S. It has a lion holding a sword on it. Does a more awesome engraving exist? I doubt it.

The one you're bidding on is a carbine, they are less common than the long rifles.
Long rifles ~$250-$700ish, condition, condition, condition.
Carbines I don't follow the prices that much, because you don't see that many...higher end of rifle values would be normal, I think.
One you're bidding on seems to be refinished, the crest seems to be partially scrubbed...bid further with caution. Just my 2 cents.

I had one and sent it back to Samco. It shot fine but wasnt described as such for the price i paid. I also had a hard time moving the front sight post , it needs a good whacking to put it to sides. The front sight hood is integrated and cannot be removed if i can remember. Also i shoots high as it starts at 300 meters on the rear sight.

Gunauction.com, item number is given. It's a sharp rifle. I'm up in the air over it and/or the k31. Buying both might get me beat too.

I'd opt for the K31 initially unless you can hands on inspect the BRNO, as the Swiss took good/great care of their service weapons and they are known to be accurate, very accurate and should cost less than a comparable 98/29 in similar condition.

But one of those Persians in great shape would be nice to add to the safe. Cannot go wrong with either actually.

Urg. This tells me I'm in trouble.

That's a tough one.

IMO, the Mausers almost always are prettier than the K31 in general design appearance. In my limited experience with Mausers, the mil-surp variety aren't necessarily as sweet a shooter as the mil-surp K31. Although, I admit to have zero experience with any Persian Mauser. Maybe they have triggers as sweet as the K31 and can match its accuracy.

Thing is, the Swiss K31 at a relatively inexpensive price will soon dry up, so unless you want to pay more money down the road... their prices have already jumped quite high compared to when they first hit these shores. GP11 ammo is not cheap, but pretty good fodder, ok, excellent pretty much.

Persians are simply Czech 98s but who doesn't lust after that receiver marking and those numbers in farsi and for only a few hundred $$ more you can get one in excellent shape. The Persians I lust after are their smaller saddle ring police carbines, but those can be spendy when & if you can find one.

Either rifle can ring steel at 880yds using open sights (BTDT) which is common for rifles of that era. But that straight pullback bolt sure is an intriguing design feature, is it not?

Check the price and availibility of ammo in your area or online, because you gotta feed either one.

I have a friend who is Persian (he prefers that name to Iranian for some reason) and when he saw the one I had his eyes lit up with a smile as well and he said "Aaaah, a BRNO", which I guess is what they called them. He offered to buy it. I have a Swede or two and a K98 or two I prefer shooting, so...

I absolutely adore my K31. It is the most fun bolt action I've ever shot. I shot a 92 off hand with it without a shooting coat. Grafs has GP11 ammo the cheapest I can find; about 36 bucks for 60 rounds shipped.

The fit and finish is amazing on a K31. But, they are mostly all well worn. Mine is probably at 60 - 65% metal finish and the stock looks as if it has been refinished with a weedeater.

The M48 Mauser I got looks brand new and is dead on accurate too. But, it's just like every other bolt gun I got.

I'm prolly going to get the K31, and refinish it.

You can't go wrong with either. I did like the markings on that Persian rifle and it has that rarity factor that the K31s have too. I think the Turkish mausers look cool too.

But my shooting buddy says you got to love a rifle that has a mini beer keg on the bolt handle.

And if recoil is an issue the 7.5x55 out of the K31 is a lot milder to me than the 8mm out of the M48.

It's a blessing to have so many interesting guns to pick from... Good luck and happy shooting.
