Anybody have any recommendations for a good folding AK stock? I had ordered an E. German wire stock, but it didn't fit right on my SAR-1 so it got returned.

The ACE folder is a good stock, but ends up being pretty expensive by the time you buy the stock, the hinge mechanism, and AK adapter.

I recommend a Tantal side foldin stock. Should fit any standard AK. I prefer it over a fixed stock too. Another stock to check out would be a Beryl sidefolding stock.

Try a Romanian wire stock? The EG just a bit snug on my Romak WUM-1 and G-build, but had to remove the housing that came with the EG folders. The Romy wire stock fit perfectly in both my WUM-1 and WUM-2.

I think most Romy's have a push button release on the wire stock, while the EG's had the lever release.

How about one of the triangle sidefolders used on the AKS-74?

That's unfortunately not a swap out deal. The sidefolding triangular stocks require permanent changes to the receiver but do indeed look awesome.

If the rifle is in 5.45, the Tantal stocks are pretty decent...I could see it being a little less practical in 7.62 given the heavier recoil. I think the Beryl stock would be a pretty nice step up from the Tantal and E German side folding stocks. I think the length of pull would be increased too (though I'm not sure). The Tantal sidefolders have a relatively short LOP.

Pretty much anything else you'd want for an AK: http://www.robertrtg.com/ak.html

Ill second that. I have a couple of them, one was on my SAR for awhile, and they work great. They have the correct LOP, and are rock solid, open or closed. They shoulder and shoot just like a fixed stock. You can also access all the controls without issue when they are folded.

They should go on without issue, but you may need to get the correct length screws. The screws that came with one of mine were to long.

I had a Romanian wire folder on my SAR-1 and it fit perfectly, but make sure you get the correct recessed-hex-head screws of exactly the right length and thread pitch (beware American-spec substitutes).

The downside of the wire folders, though, is that you have no cheek weld. Barely even any face contact at *all* if you run an optic, not even a chin weld. It looked neat on the rifle, but I eventually went back to the standard wooden stock because the lack of cheek/chin weld made it hard to snap the sights to your eye, whether the irons or the Kobra reticle.

One of the triangle folders or folding full stocks might be nice, though, if you can find one that fits.

This is definitely something to consider. I kept the wire folder on my G build, which has the foregrip dong, but I went right back to wooden stocks on my other AKs. The foregrip/wire folder is a useful combo. IMHO, the wire folder is a fun diversion if you have at least one other AK in the "standard" config.

It should have fit. The Romanians copied the East Germans when they designed their wire side folder. The EG folder is a total pain to install without directions. Possibly the problem. The rear trunnions are the same.

The above mentioned ACE but that is gonna be $$$.

CNC Warrior/Bonesteel makes an AR style folder that bolts right up.

I put a Falcon Arms folder on my WASR10.
It's a copy of the FAL/Galil type.
Costs me about $100. I like it better than any other I've tried on other AKs.
The length of pull is longer, which is one reason I bought it. You can still work the selector with it folded. Can't provide picture.

I did the opposite. Started with the folder on my Tantal, swapped it out for a wood stock, then want back to the folder. I like the sidefolder better and am used to the chin wield that when using the fixed stock, I got a chin wield after each shot and had to lower my head to a cheek wield. I don't have a red dot on my rifle at the moment because I'm gonna wait until I get a better red dot but I had no problem with a chin wield and using an optic when I was experimenting.

I like the Romy push button stock. The wire is offset to the left and give a pretty good cheek weld. Very compact. Also like my Tantal stock. Makes carrying them to the range easier.

I always got a decent cheek weld with my Romanian wire stocks using the iron sights. With my Aimpoint on an Ultimak, it was just a tad higher if I wanted the dot centered, otherwise the same as the irons.
