Did anybody see this on The Firearm Blog?

I see media making assumptions.

That's been discussed in depth here burnse and if i recon correctly, proven inaccurate.

In my gun room I've got two gun vaults, and about 10#s of Goex BP, not to mention 40#s of smokeless powder and about 10,000 rounds of miscellaneous loaded rounds of ammo. Note: none of the powder is stored together, nor in the vaults, nor is the ammo stored next to the powder, been this way for at least 20+ years and never had a problem, of course there is plenty of ventillation. Neither my wife or I smoke, and no one has ever entered my home with a lit cigarette. Maybe that's why I haven't had a problem. What do ya think? Am I gun nut or what, just waiting for an accident to happen?

This is interesting, let's say an electrical outlet fails and you've got a small fire that breaks out just a little too close to that one or two pounds of Swiss in the plastic bottles and all of a suddent there's a big hole where your gun vault used to be. Or....

Sewer gas (methane) that loves to collect in low spots develops and all of a sudden you have just the right mixture of gas and O2 but then you'd need an ignition source. Hopefully the fire department will come up with a cause on this but I've got a funny feeling that Black Powder or smokeless for that matter is probably not going to be the point of origin, a contributing factor maybe, but not the cause. I'd be suspicious of the room itself. It's stated that it was "converted" to a gun vault, who did the work?? Was it a licensed electrical contractor that did the wiring or somebody who knew how to turn on the lights when the sun goes down?

Every time I hear somebody say that static electricity will set off Black Powder I want to walk up to them holding a can of Goex shuffling my stocking covered feet across a shag carpet just to see them faint.

I will say that storing in a "cool" area makes sense though. Currently we're in Lake Havasu City AZ where it's still hitting 105-110 degrees every stinking day!! I can't wait to leave for Texas in a week or so where at least it's a more reasonable temperature outside. I usually store my powder (BP & smokeless) out in the garage of our 5th wheel but a few days ago I looked at the box marked "explosives" sitting there in my un-airconditioned garage and thought "probably a bad choice of location". I moved it into the living area and it's now under the dining room table. My wife loves me more than I irritate her.

Seriously, I think this is yet another dramatised reporting of something likely perfectly explainable.

Its easy to spout off about things you dont know anything about....Martin is clearly an expert.
