Discovery Channel cancels American Guns

Canceling it because of the bad acting, artificial drama, etc makes sense. Because of pressure of anti-gun groups...dumb but predictable I guess.

These "reality" gun shows paint more of a negative image about guns and gun owners than anything, I'm afraid.

W.E.G - Maintream is what I think if (Fake Drama... Nonsense and over acting....) this is what people like. Having shows like this focus on guns is a good thing, having it pulled because of this is a very bad thing.

“I know you all have to make money but would Discovery Channel PLEASE consider ceasing to broadcast the show in the U.K.? Sadly your program makes buying/owning guns seem fun, glamorous, even normal,”

Obviously none of that is normal in the UK....neither are a bunch of other freedoms and lifestyles we have in the US. Hey, that is one reason we kicked out the British 236 years ago...and I think we are getting along pretty well.

Cars kill more people every day than any single mass shooting event ever has....let's cancel Top Gear for making buying, owning and driving cars seem fun and glamorous.

These people are blinded by their ignorance

I think you are all missing the point. Yeah, the show sucked and truth be told I watched two episodes. I have never watched Jersy Shore... BUT... People I know who have never held a gun in their hands watched that show and liked it. Now they will know it was bad to watch that show, because it is being dropped.

This is a very public, very BIG set back. Again, I dont want to get into the stupid squables about whether a bunch of elitist gun owners liked the show or not... thats besides the point, the real problem is the folks that liked the show who are voters and were leaning towards our way of thinking.

So far besides the tradgic events in CT, this is the biggest thing that has come out of this bad situtation in my opinion.

I watched one episode of American Guns. I am surprised that show has lasted this long considering how bad it was. Giving a 16 year old ditzy blond a $2000 Kimber to carry in the shop? Ridiculous. Then again I lost all faith in TV when shows like "Jersey Shore" and related reality TV are allowed to survive.

"Ok, so I'm going to take this $300 gun, add a new set of grips and let my son hack away at it with an electric graver... that'll be $2500".

Yep... won't miss him, his helicopter, or his hokey "bar of gold" deals at all.

Hmm will the networks stop showing violent action movies? I never watched the show, but this seems an absurd response and show the danger of people having visceral, but non nonsensical reactions to things like this.

Maybe so girodin, but the bottom line is the average voter knows more about TV than guns. When they learn that the show they were watching is off the air, they will associate it with the events in CT and vote accordingly.

Hitting us in the mainstream media is going to have a huge impact.

As long as Top Shot sticks, I don't care about the other shows. Top Shot is the only one doing a service to the community.

So I am the only person who thinks that the cancellation of a "hit" show in the Discovery channel is a bad sign?

I know, the show sucked. Maybe 10 more people should post about that and ignore the real issue.

So I am the only person who thinks that the cancellation of a "hit" show in the Discovery channel is a bad sign?

No. Put aside what you personally think about the show guys. Here we have a show that wasn't doing bad ratings-wise, and had a steadily increasing audience count.

In other words, it was popular. This show was cancelled EXPLICITLY due to its connection with firearms. That's not a good sign.

Who cares about the Discovery Channel anyways, lol. Any network that would have a supposed reality show called "Amish Mafia" is ridiculous.

So I am the only person who thinks that the cancellation of a "hit" show in the Discovery channel is a bad sign?

Aside from you and Discovery Channel, I haven't seen anyone else refer to it as a "hit."

I think you can say that a lot of Discovery Channel's decisions are questionable...like putting the show on to begin with.

Is it's cancellation coinciding with the recent events a bad sign? I'd say it's a sign that the people running Discovery had a knee-jerk reaction. That's going around a lot of places; and to use this one particular instance as the benchmark is pretty arbitrary.
