Proud to Be One of the 12.3 Percenters

I'm betting most, if not all, of the states listed are significantly higher than that.

How do you answer when the pollsters call with this question? I hang up on them...

Yeah... anyone who takes phone polls in Texas cities gets a skewed number, I'm sure. ... and the state has no clear number because we don't give it legal authority to track such things.

Where are these numbers from? No source sited?

I don't buy any of it.

Where I live in NJ, that number is more like 40-50%. It's those damn filthy cities that bring us down. Though I still don't buy those numbers.

Proud indeed! Proud to be clear-headed and sane when surrounded by the ignorant and the indifferent.

The information may no longer be accurate considering the rate of purchase of ARs. The piece also doesn't explain where they get the ranking so the reliability of the information is in question. Worse, it doesn't look at the current realities, the states with legislative challenges in the states and from their fed representatives to national level challenges to the 2A.

Probably those poll numbers should be qualified as "legal firearm ownership". I suspect that there are many illegally posessed firearms in NJ that would bump that figure up, if criminals reported their firearms.

It is no surprise that the states that infringe on citizens' rights like NY,MA,RI,CT have the lowest % of gun owners. They do not have the lowest rates of violent crime. Even in CT which is effectively a "shall issue" state, the licensing process is long, multi-staged, and expensive.

I don't believe such figurers as that.
Even the NCIS figures are wrong about the number of guns sold, because states like Texas don't call the feds if the buyer has a CHL.

I'm hard pressed to think of anyone I know that doesn't have a CHL or isn't soon getting one.

New Jersey is second to last in gun ownership: 12.3%
Only Hawaii has a lower percentage.
It was a long time ago but when I was a Baltimore Maryland Policeman, handguns had to be registered in the city. I didn't know anyone that registered their handgun. I even knew people that (illegally) carried handguns, including my Wife. (You don't carry a gun in some parts of Baltimore you are foolish.)

No, I don't much believe numbers such as these.

I believe they still run the check. They don't have to do it while we wait.

Rates of gun ownership will also depend on how they define it. For example, are they only counting gun ownership among legal citizens? If not the numbers for TX will be greatly diluted. A good friend from Russia bought his first gun when he only had his greencard. How would he be counted?

Well don't that beat all Florida "The GunShine State" is below Delaware and just above California at #41.
That is just sorry! Not even a quarter of the population? But broke the 1,000,000 mark for CWP holders.
