I got a 110 at a pawn Shoppe and I have stripped it and got it into the white. My question is: is there a finish that will make the finish "desert tan"? If so what's it called and is it durable or more durable than bluing? Any comments welcome.

I did my Brand new out of the box Savage 114 with the following:

1). scotchbrite the whole rifle, stock, mounts, rings, & scope, with action out of stock.
2). spray it with etch prime.
3). spray it flat black.
4). I chose all of the camo colors I could find at walmart, and added that sand texture patio furniture paint in earthy tones as well.
5). used leaves from backyard srubbs and woods, & grass for styncils.
6). just have fun with it, you can start over if you want, different patterns, different shades, different layout. Remember, there are no real straight line in mother nature, so all you really want to do is to break up the pattern a bit.

You will be supprised what one good afternoon can do, and in a day or so, how nice it all comes together in the end. AND, if you chip or scratch it, its cheap to fix it later...LOL

I might just spray it. I'm torn because I kinda want to blue it but my son wants it desert tan. It will have a stainless barrel on it and I may need to scuff the barrel finish to make it hold paint. The original idea was a tan barrel and action in a synthetic Choate sniper stock also tan in color.
