I've been racking my brain looking for a compact 9mm or .380ACP pistol. It must:

1. Dead nuts reliable (at least as mechanically as anyone can make them.) I don't have time, or will I be able to, send it in for service.
2. Minimum of 6 round mag.
3. Magazines readily available at my LGS.
4. Weigh less than 25-30 oz unloaded.
5. As compact/flat as possible, but fatter must buy me higher capacity.
6. Have holsters made for it that I can buy at my LGS.
7. Action type does not matter.
8. Price range new to lightly used $550-700

I keep coming back to the Glock 26...but I recently found that I have NOT kept up with pistol development over the last few years and there's a lot of new stuff out there and a few brand names I do not recognise.

Nothing wrong with a G26 although I would try to make room for a G19 in that brand.

The chairman of the local chapter of The Gun of the Month Club has settled down with a S&W Plastic M&P Compact.

I know a couple of pleased Shield shooters.

A friend has a very compact Kahr PM 9 and I have a CW 9. They are both reliable, too.

I would like to get a look at a Walther PPQ.

Good luck on magazines and any selection of holsters at any but the biggest and best LGS.
Chances are probably best for Glock.

Kahr P380 seems to fit all your criteria. Price, quality, round count, etc.

+1 on the Kahr PM9 as well.

Kahr cm9 or pm9 great guns, glock 26, m&p 9c. Go to your local range and see if you can rent them.

G26 is the absolute best as long as it's small enough for you. It took me 9 month or so of carrying it to learn that it's just too big for me. My LCP (or LC9 if you want 9mm) has proven a 100% reliable, smaller, lighter substitute

I came to the G26 conclusion last year. Until I shot a rental G26, the S&W M&P Shield was my choice, but after shooting the G26 I knew I was done looking.

Agree with the rental idea....above. With so many options available I see no reason why folks continue to default to gLoCk, especially with their recent issues.

3. Magazines readily available at my LGS.
6. Have holsters made for it that I can buy at my LGS.
That & that rules out most all pistols & accessories your LGS isn't pushing off on you at the moment.

You will have to reverse engineer the problem from the LGS point of sales to answer your question.

Walther PPK in .32ACP would work. I know, "small" bullet, yada, it's a gun, 99.99% of the time, a .32ACP is plenty.

I agree with RC. We cant really make a recommendation with not knowing what mags and holsters are available locally. Take 3 & 6 out of the equation. No reason to limit yourself when holster and mags may be abundant online. Besides I don't think anyone here will know what you LGS keeps in stock. Mags and holsters vary widely in local stores. If for whatever reason you are against this, let us know what you have locally so we can start there.

Walther ppk/s in .380 acp would work 7+1 relatively easy to acquire mags and holsters, it should fit the money requirement and size.

Mags and holsters are almost available for Glocks, seemingly just about anywhere in the US (at least in my travels). I'd go with a G26, for which the G22 and 23 mags will also work.

Single or double stack?
Double action/single action?
Double action only?
Single action only?
Striker fired?
External safety?
Caliber?

Decide these factors. Then ask.
There are so many good choices, and we all have our favorites.
You need to let us know what your preferences are.

#1 kinda eliminates any suggestions I would make. No one has ever designed or built the perfect machine.

You've narrowed it down to more than half of the pistols on the market today.

My vote will go to a Shield. It surely has to be one of the best looking your requirements. It is small enough, but not too small to be inaccurate or a handfull like the super small pocket pistols
