I have done some serious shopping for .44 Magnum brass and find nothing. Many are not even accepting backorders. Why would this caliber be remarkably unavailable? I use a number of other calibers and have been able to find a supply of each pretty easily. I don't need or want any of them in bulk...just a couple hundred at a time to prime the pump for my own fired brass recycling. I would rather not do that with purchased cartridges containing mystery loads and odd bullets.

It's .22 Hornet for me. Just trying to be patient. New .300 BLK brass finally showed up at Midway and I got some of that, but .22 Hornet remains elusive. When it becomes available, sometime this year I hope, I am going to put 500 .44 Mag cases back, as all I have are the 300 I am using. If I get desperate I could use .44 Spl or .44 Russian cases.

We feel your pain. :)

Every store I go into that carries ammo has factory loaded 44 Mag. I'm surprised that its that hard to find in other places.

Walkalong, check your pm's. Brass for ya. (22 hornet)

This is a revolver round, so most users at the ranges keep their empty brass. Ditto with 45Colt

There has been a shortage on everything guns for about 6 months now.

And I have lived every day of it. I noted that it is .44 Mag that I find particularly unavailable, even to backorder or receive notification on many sites.

Yes, but I was referring to brass only, especially new brass.

I see only lots of 500 and already primed @ $.30 + any shipping (?). That's really more than I need, and I already invested in primers, but it's good to know there is that option. I appreciate the find.

There wasn't much of it around to begin with. Brass makers don't have permanent lines of production cranking it out like 9mm. The demand is much higher for 9mm, 45, 223, 308. It will take a long time before they catch up with the more common brass and have time to do a run of 44 magnum.

Yup, some brass is still in short supply.
I'm a little short of one handgun case, but I just do without for now.
I figure I'm running low if I got less than about a 1000 on hand anyway. :D

I would not be too quick to dismiss buying the primed brass mentioned if it were me.;) When the new stock of brass is made in the future the price per round of unprimed brass may well be the same as this is presently available for. Then it would be like getting a free primer with purchase if done now. If the quantity is too great then consider selling some in the swap/sell forum here once you buy them and take what you need. I have done this with bulk bullets before (10K purchase quantities). Another reloader might welcome some new primed brass at a reasonable price if they can't find primers locally now. You can ship primed brass UPS/FED-X if you wish or just deprime them with a large enough rifle die to avoid marking the new brass and sell them as unfired brass, just save the primers for later use. I have used salvaged primers by the hundreds with no problems whatsoever. My .02.:)

It's going to be months before the reloading supply catches back up with demand. Items like 44 Magnum are probably going to be on the tail end of it.

I'd buy up that 500ct primed brass and smile.

I think I would pass on 42 cents apiece for fired brass, given other options. I bought 100 rounds of all new, loaded, JHP .44 Mag ammo this AM for net 40 cents each. Another batch of 240 gr SJSP was net 65 ea plus an ammo can included.

I'm good for now because I have loaded ammo with cases I can reload, and I bought 300 fired, mixed head stamp cases offline. At this rate, I'll be supplying others.

Thanks for the help. We succeeded.
