...but it is a little too big to carry. So...

Picked it up today from Academy Sports. I called earlier today and got lucky. They had not even put it in the display case yet. They were kind enough to hold it for me until I could make it over there to pick it up this evening. I am happy.

Nice choice I love mine. It has a great feel in the hand, great sites love this gun. You will be very happy after a range visit with you pick

I bought the very first one I saw in person and have been pretty well satisfied with it ever since. It's small, flat and light. Makes a great gun for when I don't want to or can't carry something bigger. I trust the OP will enjoy his, too.

That being said, since we're on the topic of S&W Shields, it's probably a good idea to put up a link to S&W's page about the "safety alert" they've got going.

Man, I'm on the fence in buying one also. One of the LGS has it but is really lousy and cheap on trade ins, while the other LGS which takes good trade in doesn't have it. I am trying to trade in my GLock36 for it.

So how much smaller is the shield from the M&P 9c.
Length in height are reasonably close, the shield is much thinner.

I sold one of my guns on a local forum to fund the purchase. I have always been disappointed with what I am offered on trade by my LGSs. If you have a local gun forum it may be worth a shot.

I have had the Shield .40 for over a year. I checked and no defect; recall does not apply to mine. But you should look into the "test" for yours. It has to do with the upper rear part of the trigger.

Anyway, go ahead and get yourself a nice IWB holster. I recommend something from Crossbreed. You're gonna love it. They are good guns.

Thanks. I checked it for the trigger safety issue before I left the store. It does not apply to mine. I am going to order a couple different style holsters this week and see what works best for me.

I own both the Shield and the 9c

My Shield

My 9c

I like them both but carry the 9c most of the time.

I checked my Shield and it checks out fine.

We have 4 Shields in my extended family and none of them have the recall problem.

I just realized I never posted a pic of it's big brother. Never one to leave things stock, I did a little paintfill work on the slide and mags. It also has the Apex DCAEK trigger kit installed.

Thanks TahoeDust.

I think ill just stick to my M&P9c. It seems like thin is in.

And to think the 1911's have been doing it the entire time....LOL.

I have not even shot it in stock form, but I just snagged a Apex USB for $20. I have the complete DCAEK in my FS and love it. I'm going to keep an eye out for a good deal on the sear next.

I never carried my 9c much because of it's weight and width....ended up trading it off. I'm on the search of a sub-compact 9.

Just got done shooting 8 mags through the shield. Four of each the 7rd and 8rd. It ran flawlessly. Definitely more challenging to shoot then my FS 9mm.

I also put 150 rounds through my FS...also flawless.

My knee jerk reaction to the "too big for carry comment" almost resulted in posting a pic of my 5'5", 140 pound buddy whose EDC is an M&P 9 full size. 4:30 o'clock in a DeSantis Intruder IWB/hybrid holster = invisible.

That's cool. I am new to concealed carry and am just more comfortable carrying this. With the full size I feel very self conscious of printing. Maybe one day I will be more comfortable carrying a full size.

How u paint that gun like that
It was pretty easy. First I cleaned the areas with compressed air and rubbing alcohol to remove any oil or debris. Then I went over the entire area with white nail polish. Next I VERY lightly went over the area with non-acetone nail polish remover on a piece of clean cotton. It removes the paint from the surface, but leaves it in the area to be filled. It takes a little bit of touch, but it is pretty simple. I did the magazines first to make sure I was comfortable with the process. There are some how-to videos on youtube.

Here is what it looked like before I removed the paint from the surface:

I have around 400 rounds since doing it, cleaning it multiple times, and it still looks the same.

The 9c is far superior firearm. You get rail plus ability to use full size gun mags as reloads. This is why Glock isn't interested in making single stack 9mm pistol.
i never understood all the rage about these guns especially in 9mm is it they don't want to buy new pair of slacks or is it very unhealthy mid body obesity.
