I got through to one on the fence

Cool, keep up the good work.

My wife was married for 30+ years until her husband passed away, both of them absolutely refused to even allow a bb gun in their home. We have been married for close to 16 yrs now and I have taught my wife the same thing. A gun is a tool, it is the person that you have to be afraid of. In 2011 my proudest time was when at a local gun shop she actually picked out a handgun of her own choice and purchased it. On her birthday this year I gave her a 38 snub-nose and you would have thought I gave her a basket full of diamonds and gold. If you present logic when talking many will learn, some will never change regardless of anything.

My daughter in law was very much against firearms in general, let alone one in the home. That is until a few years ago when my son was away for a few weeks in a job out of state. Seems some idiot tried getting into her home and got tangled up into a fence outside her back door.

After calling me, and the Sheriffs Dept. (I live 20 minutes away), and the Sheriff's deputy arrived fairly quickly (within 17 minutes) the suspected intruder cleared himself of the fence, and made his get a away, leaving behind a huge butcher knife.

Shortly thereafter I trained her in the use of a her recently purchased .357 snub nose revolver, and she became a very accomplished marksman, as well as an educated self defense advocate (civilly as well as criminally).

It is truly amazing what a real life encounter such as this will do to educate the anti gun forces we have we have in this nation.

I believe I may have had a hand in changing someone's mind too. The UPS guy that comes to our gun shop regularly used to "debate" with me about carrying firearms. We went over everything from (the misnamed) "assault rifles" to handguns and the right to own and carry them. He was not exactly dead set against it, but he argued fairly strongly in favor of strict police protection rather than using a firearm to defend yourself.

He recently told me he was going to take a concealed carry class. He was in a hurry and didn't have time to elaborate, but it put a smile on my face when he said it. I like to think that thought would never have crossed his mind if we hadn't met and had our discussions.

I've swayed a few. One had a total conversion but I take no joy in that. He lost relatives in the Green uprising in Iran. He always considered the "true reason for the 2nd amendment" outdated and currently impossible at best and anti-social at worst. Gun owner now.

I've never "converted" anyone yet, but my wife has a co-worker that's a rabid Obama supporter, so I'm assuming she's a Liberal as well. This lady surprised me recently by virtually begging me to take her shooting! Said she's never even held a gun and is just dying to try it! Blew my mind. Guess I'll be doing that soon. Need to get that arranged before winter.

I've made a few anti-gun people blink when using a camera analogy:
- cameras are the thing that keeps illegal, exploitive pornography alive
- therefore, all cameras are bad
- semi-auto cameras are really bad, they take picture after picture
- fully auto cameras (video) are worst of all and need to be eliminated NOW
- cameras should be eliminated and at very least a national camera registration MUST happen

Then I say, "Of course cameras are not the problem. If you make them illegal the perverts will still find and use them. But almost every single camera out there is used safely, for good, for a hobby, with friends and for family benefit. That is how gun advocates think of their hobby, it's the same thing!"

To the many who have asked me, "what are the chances of anyone breaking in to my house or singling me out to commit a crime"? I respond, "just ask anyone who has had that happen to them and they will tell you the chances are 100%".

Btw, the best way to convert an anti, Is to take them shooting... Once they lost their fear of the gun itself, its almost an instant transition. I made the comparison the other day that fear of guns is bred into people, sort of like racism. They grew up and lived their whole lives thinking one thing... So its hard to break it. But put those people in a room with what they fear.... All of the sudden everything is okay.

Interesting is it not?

The truth is.... The "fence" is wide

I have found many people that are "shallow" antis at best.


I take as many non shooters as possible to the range as I can......

Some of these people i have seen become rabid gun owners, many ended up getting a gun, and others stayed indifferent, but wouldnt vote against gun ownership if it came up in the future.

Indeed, the future is BRIGHT! at least in this state anyways...

Much of "anti" is just relentless reinforcement by the media.

One of the few problems I have with my wife is that I think she watches far too much TV, almost all of it ridiculous court or csi stuff.

A few months ago she made a passing comment, something about who did people need guns anyway. After making sure she wasn't pulling my leg, I asked her why *she* had guns. (bear in mind she has a CHCL and owns, among other things, a P90 and a DPM!)

She just had a blank look for a moment, and then, "oh, right" and wandered off.

It does feel great !!! At local gas station, a young man and I always spoke, mostly politics, so I work on him, mess with him for over a year. So one day he's back from college and says he's thinking about joining the Marines. I tell him his political leanings would probably change some if he did, he says to me that they already had, and would I take him shooting some time. I know I wasn't the only reason he changed, but was part of it. He's about 22 years old, and I think we have long time gun owner on our hands, plus I think he wants to get into politics.......
