So after recently taking an overdue Ammo inventory I discovered I have about 1,500 rounds of .45 ACP in a mixture of FMJ and JHP. I currently have no gun in that caliber. Sure I could sell the ammo but I feel like I'm missing something with no 1911 in the safe.

Is there a better option than a Ruger SR1911 for $600? I thought about a Rock Island Tactical for the cheaper price since this is really just a fun/range gun, not intended as a go to for SD/HD as I have that covered.

Am I missing anything in the $500 range?

My friend just bought an SR1911 CMD from my LGS for $619.
They have one more as of Friday--pm me if you want their contact info.

Thanks, really looking for full size. I'm thinking $645 after shipping and transfer is going to be hard to beat for a decent 1911.

If it is just a range gun, then why not go for a MAC, American Classic or RIA pistol?

The STI Spartan is also in your price range. You can't go wrong with the Rock Island either. I wish I had this kind of ammo problem!

I picked up the full size SR1911 earlier this year and have spending some quality time at the range, I would highly recommend giving it a chance.

I've heard the ruger is the best 1911 under a grand. Though I suppose that could be subjective. For that price point I wouldn't choose anything else.

I was originally looking at something less expensive, but I figure and extra $200 why not get something of a little more quality and made in USA. Think I will pull the trigger on the Ruger.

For one of the absolute best bargains in a vintage forged steel genuine Colt 1911, you might look at the post-war returns marked "Not English Make." These examples can often be found in excellent condition. A few proof marks, etc. applied by the British government create a valuable opportunity for smart shoppers seeking a WWII vintage parkerized prize. ;)

If less expensive is your primary consideration in an M1911 I would say the RIA Tactical would be a great choice.

If you can find one at that price point, the Remington R1 is very nice. I like it better than the Ruger.

Check out STI. The Spartan is a great gun for $600 while the Trojan is quite nice at $1000.

You'd be well served with a RIA, STI Spartan or Para Expert, all three would probably be a little cheaper than the Ruger, and work very well as a Range toy. If I was looking for a cheaper 1911, I think I'd probably go for a RIA tactical.

I think the Ruger SR1911 is the best looking gun in your price range. I think STI Spartan has a better trigger out of the box and better target sights on the full size version. I don't mind the parkerized finish on the Spartan, so that would be my choice.

I recently purchased a Remington R1S and really like it. I took it out of the case, and started shooting. In the first 50 rounds, I had no FTFs, and 1 FTE. I have since sent about 500 rounds down range with no issues at all. It feels great, is well balanced, and is accurate.

I'm no expert on 1911's or the like, but I really like my Ballester Molina!

Sistema's are also quite nice (a "true" 1911, not a modified version like the Ballester).

Still not sure if I'm going to leave this one as is, or refinish at some point, but for $400.00, felt it was an okay deal.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm leaning towards the STI Spartan now, even though it's street price is running higher than the Ruger right now.

*dangles shiny gold pocket watch on chain*

1500 rounds and no gun, huh? That sucks. Kind of like having this pocket watch that doesn't work. See how shiny it is? Nice watch, just no ticking from it. Cool gold chain, though. Sways back and forth nicely on it, don't you think? Back and forth...baaaack and fooorth...baaaack and foooorth.

You're eyes are looking droopy and heavy, like you didn't get much sleep last night. That's OK, just relax and look at the shiny watch swing baaaack and foooorth, baaaack and foooorth. Close your eyes if you want and take a short nap. It'll do you some good.

OK, now you're in a deep sleep, totally relaxed and all's quiet and calm. I want you to listen to me very carefully:

Your 1500 rounds of ammunition is lonely without a gun, which you don't have. Very lonely...wouldn't it be nice to give that ammunition to someone who already had a gun and needed ammunition to keep it company? Of course you would. They'd be so happy together!

I want you to package up that ammunition and ship it to 1313 Mockingbird Lane, in Mockingbird Heights. It'll find a good home with a gun there and be very happy. Pay for the shipping and handling in cash, and dispose of the receipt afterwards.

When you finish this, you will wake up feeling happy, relaxed, and refreshed. You will have no memory of this 1500 rounds of ammunition and will remember nothing of the details involved in shipping it.
