Has anyone used one? I bought the 3-9x40 today for my R15. Wondering if any of you guys have any thoughts on it? The few online reviews I've read were mostly positive, so I threw down the $299 on one. I have not sighted it in yet.

I had a 1-4 model. Was a really good scope for the money. Supposedly it's made to the same ruggedness as the Mk4 but uses cheaper glass.

Just remember "Lewpoled" is how it's pronounced, that might help with ommiting that o.
I don't have any first hand experience with any, as they weren't available when I scoped an AR for myself the last time, and I put a VX II 2-7 x 33 on that one.
I have, however steered two others to get a Mark AR, and both of those guys have had nothing but positive feedback.

I have a 3-9 Mark AR on a 20" free-floated AR. It is extremely accurate, and I like the scope a lot. It's bright and has a quite fine reticle. It's also easy to adjust and returns to zero if you do decide to adjust for a particular load. Can't go wrong with a Leupold. My opinion of course.

Where do you guys typically mount your scopes on AR's? The charging handle looks like it might be an issue. Mine is mounted directly above maybe slightly back, only due to that's just were it felt right. I was however having a little problem grabbing the charging handle firmly. Seems like if I did put it much further forward it would be awkward, and I'd have to get a different mount. Any thoughts?

Look into the extended charging handles. I suggest the BCM Gunfighter charging handle.

I like to mount my scope in one of the one piece mounts.

I put a BCM charging handle on mine too, but in actual use it's not really needed. You'll be able to use the charging handle with the scope mounted. I think the Leupold is a great scope for an AR - it's a good size, too. Not too big.

A buddy of mine put a Nikon made for ARs on his 16", and it looks just HUGE on there. Nice scope, but I don't think it's as nice as the Mark AR. The Leupold reticle doesn't look quite so "cluttered" with the little circles the Nikon uses instead of dots, for holdover points. Once again, just my opinion, one of which everyone has. :)

Had mine for 3 or 4 years, works fine, nice scope. Currently mothballed in favor of an RDS strictly for the fun factor. I did throw it on a few months back for a fellow shooter at the range who was considering different options for her AR. As always, no shift in POI using a basic RRA 1-piece mount.

Leupold Mark ARs are mounted on two of my rifles.

The Mini-14 Deluxe has the 1-4X Mark AR, and it is working perfectly. No drama, just a very good scope.

My Armalite flat-top AR15 has the 3-9X Mark AR, which has the trajectory compensator. It's very simple to use; just zero the rifle at a known distance, set the turret for that distance, and lock it. (I used 200 yards, and set the turret to read "2" after zeroing.)

ASSUMING (yeah, I know) that your load and the turret are compatible, you are good to go. MY turret says "55 grains @ 3100", and my handload in that rifle is a 55 V-Max at 3097 fps, which is surely close enough. (Leupold will supply a custom turret for just about any load, IF we know the velocity.)

All that's needed then is to set the turret for the required range, and hold dead-on. Out to 500 yards, as far as I've tested it, the outfit gives 100%-reliable hits on a steel IPSC silhouette..... with that dead-center sight picture.

Both Mark ARs represent very good value in my estimation.

I added an extended bolt handle on the Armalite, as well as an ambidextrous safety.... being a left-hander. The handle is a very useful addition, and makes it much easier for ME to retract the bolt when needed. Others may think otherwise.

I really like mine. Its a 6-18x and the smallest I could find cause I wanted a light weight piece. All the other 18x scopes are 30 mil, long and heavy. I don't like my rings but the scope is nice. It tracks fine and is clear.

FYI - if you send it to Leupold they can adjust the setting of the markings on the turrets to match your handloads. Very cool.

The one I used had a .308 turret from Leupold's custom shop.
If you know the ballistics of your preferred load, they can custom make a turret that matches it.

If I were going to buy another Mark AR scope, I'd consider the version with the "firedot" illuminated red dot at the center of the reticle. Not sure how much more it costs though. I looked through one and it was pretty cool. Something to consider.
