What is a good brand for a 1.5-6X scope for an AR flattop? I was trying to avoid a fixed power scope if I had a choice. Actually, I was thinking of trying it on my VEPR to see what I could do. It would likely end up swapping for the EOTech on my AR.

I was looking at www.riflescopes.com and it looks like the Leopolds in that category are up there in price, and I don't have any idea of what other brands would be dependable. I have heard of the ACOGs but what I have seen of them are very expensive. I don't think my wallet is in that category right now. I notice the basic 3-9X's are cheaper so that is an option I guess. Anyone have any thoughts on a good choice?

I have a Bushnell Trophey 1.75-4x on my Saiga, was only $99 at Cabela's. Works fine so far! plenty of magnification for most things and low enough power to get a wide picture.

Thanks for the responses. I'll look at those later on. (sites are blocked at work)

My Dad has used Simmons and thinks they are decent enough. Not sure if I would trust it or not. I would rather look at others first.

I like the Trijicon Accupoint, got one on my FNC. The eye relief is a bit longer than the ACOG so you will need either a rail handguard or one of those La Rue extended mounts.

Costs only half as much as an ACOG and has variable power.

I too was skeptical of simmons but this one was recommended by Benny Hill and other 3gunners on the enos forums. I figured it is only $50 and it could be a good back up scope. Cannot tell the difference between the quality of this (construction and lens) to any ~$200-400 scopes I have used. It is my primary optic until the Mueller CQB comes out and then it will be my backup.

boofus, I appreciate the thought, but that one is way outside my price range right now. If I had that cash, I would probably just buy a RRA AR.

That Simmons may be worth a try to get started. The price is hardly a blip on the radar. The bushnell is not much more.

Leupold makes a 1-4x shotgun scope that you can get into for around $200-300. It also makes a very handy AR scope if you can get it mounted far enough forward to use the long eye-relief.

I run the Simmons Pro Diamond on my Clark Gator. It bumped off my Holosight and it won't come off for anything less than the ACOG.
