Xdm 3.8

I just picked up a used, like new condition XDm 3.8 9mm with 8 mags and a CT green Laserguard for $675. Took it out to the range and shot 200 rounds through it. It was 100% reliable and very accurate.

Mine is the full size 3.8. I purchased it to upgrade my XD-9. The grip fits my hand very well. It also feels really well balanced with the shorter slide and the regular frame.

The XDm 3.8 Compact .45 will be my next purchase here pretty soon.

Great pistols. I actually own a 4.5 inch, but the 3.8 inch I shot at the range is what sold me. Great ergonomics, and I personally felt the grip safety was a plus. I think the stock trigger is okay, but I ended up upgrading with a PRP drop-in kit. The trigger upgrade made me fall in love with the pistol all over again. Mine is my nightstand gun, with a TLR-4 mounted.

I have the XDS, "if I ever get it back", and love that one, so I guess with your positive comments and the price I saw on slick guns, it is under consideration. I also am caught between the CZ, P01, and the Walther PPQ. I need to make a decision.

Wife has a black and green 3.8 9mm. Shoots nice, trigger break is good, the trigger reset is a little softer than I like but it's reliable and accurate. The melonite coating is easy to clean and the polished feed ramp is nice touch. Grip is way too big for CCW but it would make a good nightstand gun with a light on the rail.

Thats a nice 9. The ergonomics of that gun works well for me.
I have a 3.8 .45c and it is a great shooter.

Here it is with my XDS.

About the same size of an MP .40c.

With extended mags. The Smith is 3.5 the Springfield of course is 3.8.

Do they come with all that? Gotta love that..

Can someone 'splain all the different lines of XD's for me in a nutshell? All the XD(this letter) and the XD(that letter)?

Also which is the one that has been recalled? Should this one be avoided, the last I heard they hadn't found an answer to the problem they were having with it but they were still recalling it? Is that over with? Nice looking guns btw.

Gym,
Sounds like you're having the same problem as I am. Those are a few of the ones Im trying to decide on. I read that the PPQm2's trigger is super duper. (not that that will help me much probably)

to me the 3.8 is the worst of both worlds. the longer handle makes it harder to conceal and the shorter slide makes it more difficult to shoot accurately.

now if springfield mated a service sized slide with a compact frame then that is something that I would love to put my dollar down for.

they do XDm 3.8 compact best of both 13 rd compact magazine and
19 for a full size grip

I was not talking about the 3.8 compact I was talking about the 3.8 standard which does not have the cut grip length.

3.8 is not the best of service length. most service are between 4 and 5 inches. that's why I said best of both worlds by mating the 4.5 slide to the compact frame.

I've owned and carried a XDm 3.8 Compact in .40 caliber for about three years. It has had thousands of rounds run through it. It supposedly failed to fire once when a friend's wife was shooting it but my friend reached over and cycled the round before I could examine it. I honestly think she wasn't gripping it properly and hadn't engaged the grip safety. Aside from that one round it has been 100% reliable. I think I would have prefered it in 9mm but was lulled over to .40 caliber by all the bravado I was hearing and reading at the time. I now carry a Sig 239 in 9mm as often as I carry the XDm and am completely confortable with the ability of a 9mm.

I like the mags, nice and slick, they always drop right out without any shaking or yanking. Nice trigger, very accurate.

I wish someone made a +1 or +2 floorplate because I could use an extra 1/8 inch on the grip and don't care for the Pearce option. Overall I still like this gun a lot.

I have the XDM 3.8 in 45acp and love it. Great shooter accurate and eats all the ammo I feed it. I especially like the fact it will take full size 13rd mags as well as 9rd compact mags.

springer precision makes a +4

actually you don't. you own a 3.8 compact, the XDM45 does not have a regular 3.8 offering without the compact grip that the XDM9 and 40 have which are the guns being discussed here.

The XD-9 that I traded in for the XDm 3.8 has a 4" barrel. I'm not going to lose sleep over .2" of barrel length.

Overall size is almost identical between the two. The XDm 3.8 grip feels much better in the hand, the magazines have an extra 3 rounds of capacity, and the gun feels very balanced.

As to this comment, I just love forum members that nitpick people to death. It makes the whole forum experience a joy for others.

I am simply pointing out that this thread regards the compact length slide on a full length grip. this configuration is not available in 45ACP. I was simply pointing out that a person attempting to provide helpful advice is giving advice on the wrong model. I also own the 3.8 compact 45ACP but I do acknowledge that there are very distinct differences between these models.

this is much like a person asking advice on a glock 21 and a person claiming that they are great because their glock 36 is great. different models are different models.

you are also comparing a XD to an XDM. you may not lose sleep over the .2 inches difference between an XD service and an XDM 3.8 but there is a heck of a lot of difference between an XDM 4.5 and a 3.8. a fair comparison is the XD compact and XD service.

this is not nitpicking, this is simply giving information for the specific model the OP is looking for. I also have owned XDMs in 4.5 in numerous calibers and in 3.8 compacts but that experience is not helpful to the OP because none of those were the models that he is asking about.

Just looking at the XD/XDM line of pitols, is the bore axis high compared to most striker fired guns? I've shot several XD models over the years, didn't really notice much different.

according to the common knowledge, the higher bore axis of the XD/XDM should make them handle more poorly than other handguns, but I fired an XD45 alongside a glock 21(45ACP) and the glock handled more poorly. so I switched to a glock 22(40 cal) and the XD still handled better. only once I switched to a glock 17(9mm) did the glock handle better than the XD.

also according to the common knowledge the longer slides of the XDM should make the M handle even better but I have yet to do a side by side to test that.

I don't own a Springfield, but I do have a sig 220 carry with the 3.8" barrel and standard size grip. I really like it; a bit shorter barrel, but plenty of grip to hang on to.

I say if you like it, get one!
