Howdy,

I'm wondering if there's any such thing as a junkyard for 1911 LOL.

Seriously, I'm reading Kuhnhausens 1st Manual and would like to have a really cheap 1911 to disassemble to learn from - doesn't have to be fireable. Where might I look for something like that? Would it be feasible to buy a cheapo new 1911 for such?

I have to look at tool costs as well because I don't want to make any real investment in tools as my forays into my "good" 1911's will be quite limited. I'm near 60 and don't anticipate a lifetime of tool usage.

Thanks for all ideas and suggestions!

Kimbers belong in a junk yard just get one of those LOL

Seriously if you find one post about it I'll buy one too

Funny that, are you a Colt man? I'm seeing a RIA for mid $300 used on GunBroker, lowest I've found so far.

I'm hoping someone says - oh hey there you can have my junked ___ what's your address? It would be nice if that happened.

Any junk-yard 1911 already has a cracked frame or slide, or both.

And has long ago been stripped of all the parts.

Better just buy a cheap new or used one.

I traded a flashlight for a norinco at a gun show a few years back. Been a great gun, and served as a learning tool for me as well.

I would encourage yo to pick up a set of the 1911 blueprints, either paper or electronic. They will be invaluable when you start checking critical dimensions.

I found a used Chinese Norenco "Model of the 1911" () for $250

Apparently the have very good steel in the frame and slide, but the rest of the parts are not so hot.

You can get fairly cheap parts and parts sets from e-sarco No guarantees on the quality. You generally get the quality you pay for. But I did biy a complete slide kit which has served me pretty well on a range gun. If you can find a stripped frame, even a cracked one, you could put together something to learn from even if you can't shoot it.

Not really I just picked the first high end 1911 manufacturer that popped into my head to make a joke lol. I own a Springfield RO.
