I've been doing a lot of research, and have decided I'll probably be picking up a Springfield Mil-Spec 1911 next month. I really want to learn even more about the mechanical workings of the 1911 before I buy, just so I have a better understanding of the intracacies of how the pistol works.

I won't be doing any "NOOB with a Dremel" crap. I may be slow, but I'm not totally stoopid ;). Mainly, I would like to be able to detail strip my 1911 with confidence before I even shoot it. I plan on going over everything very carefully to make sure the pistol at least appears to be in good working order. At most, I would like to be able to do some very light dehorning and polishing on any obvious burrs by hand with some ultra fine grit sand paper and/or Flitz and a cloth.

So are there any good books/videos for 1911 newcomers that focus on disassembly/reassembly and basic maintenance? I have learned quite a bit by reading 1911 Forum, Steve Camp's Hi Powers and Handguns, and The Sight M1911A1, among others.

BTW, I know that many 1911s can be disassembled using their own parts, but I've heard that using the right tools is the easier way to do it. What are some basic tools that would help me out?

Thanks for the suggestions!
