I have a 6-18x40 Buckmaster on one of my rifles that has the tall target turrets on it. I like the shorter turrets like on my 4.5-14 Buckmaster. The taller turrets stick up enough that I think the proportion on my rifle looks "off". I want to make the rifle look more "streamlined".

Has anyone here switched theirs from the tall to shorter? I called Nikon and they told me that they do not sell just the turrets, unless you get custom turrets which cost $100. :what:

Any place to buy the turrets from that you all know of? Or will they easily switch out with the shorter ones? If so, I might need to find someone to do some swapping with.

I happen to have both of the same scopes. If you look at them there is really no possible way to stream line the 6-18. I'm pretty sure you would be cutting into the mechanics of the adjustments.

The 6-18 is 1/8 click, the 4.5-14 is 1/4 click. Not sure if that is what they are taller but I don't see any solution to your perceived problem. If you take your turret caps off you will see how tall they are.

Btw, my 6-18 came with 2 sets of turret caps. One "tactical" and one that was not as robust and had covers that make it look more traditional. Both sets are tall.

If you take the bolt out that olds on the turret, you will find that it is tall, but hollow. The teeth are on the bottom and it resembles a thimble. You could take a half inch or more out the the middle and everything would still work the same. That would not affect the mechanics any.

All is need is a shorter turret, bolt and cap.

I have bought 3 or 4 6-18's over the last two years and none of them came with an extra set of turrets.

That's odd. They didn't come with the target turrets and the capped turrets? I bought one from Cabela's last year and it came with both sets.

Mine is great, btw. I use the target turrets and the adjustments have been dead reliable. I have had the scope on 3 different rifles and after the first one when I forgot about the 1/8moa clicks I have been able to zero in 2 or 3 shots. Dial for elevation and it returns to zero just like it should.
