I want a new scope for my Marlin XS7 243 Win. Mainly used for target shooting, and occasionally for deer hunting. I've used my buddies Nikon Buckmasters on his Tikka T3 Super Varmint in 308 and was very impressed. I have a Nikon Prostaff on my AR and have been happy with it but thought I would step it up a bit.

Is there a better scope than the Nikon Buckmasters 4.5-14x40 for under $300? I'm not familiar with Vortex Bushnell, Redfield, etc. On a side note, Nikon is throwing in a free 14mp L24 camera with any Buckmasters purchased. Just an added perk.

I think the Buckmaster is a fine optic for your stated uses, especially at its price point.

I have a 6-18x40 on a Savage 12FV, and it compares very favorably to my 5-20 Monarch. Its not a Nightforce or USO...but it doesn't pretend to be, either.

I like the Nikon Buckmaster scope. I have 3 4.5-14's and 4 6-18's. Great scopes for the money.

I took think the Buckmaster is fine, but honestly, I'd prefer the Burris FFII in 4.5-14x42. I feel it has slightly better glass than Nikons main offerings including the Monarchs I have, but it's not a huge difference and the Buckmasters are nice scopes if that's the way you go. I'd actually probably get the new Burris FFII E1, although I've not personally used it, I've used many FFII's and the E1 is getting rave reviews and fixes the eye piece rotating with magnification changes which is the only thing I see a problem with on the original FFII. It also has better turrets on it that make it appealing.

Buckmaster-perfect timimg!

SS, for once perfect timing. The Buckmaster is an excellent scope. I was just telling a guy how I bought two 2 years ago for my son's Tikka T3 .308 and my father in-law's Browning BLR also in .308. Both have taken deer in Tx. in 80 deg. weather as well as Kansas in below 0 temps.

YOu are in luck as of today Nikon has started huge promotion on the Buckmaster scope. Buy one from an Authorized Nikon Dealer and get a coupon for a Free Nikon Digital camera. About $120 value I believe. Pretty sweet. I hope this helps you make up your mind?
