Well, shot my workup today. Got my load data from the Hodgdon website.

Load data:
SMK 175gr
IMR4064 42-45.4C (Max is 45.6C)
CCI 250
Win headstamp trim 2.005
OAL 2.808

Setup:
Rem 700 ADL SPS-V. 26" barrel 1:12 twist. Weaver classic extreme 8-32x50 on a 20 MOA base.

Shot using rear bag and bipod. Temp around 65, light breeze blowing from behind me towards target. Partly cloudy.

Overall, I loved how this powder I did. Most the groups were really nice. I haven't checked my barrel yet for cleanliness.

It made the gun jump a bit because my stocks light but that can be remedied.

I was really happy with it though. I was a little nervous shooting the compressed loads but they all shot great. In my rifle, there were no high pressure signs. My final load won't be compressed though.

I believe I'll be going with the 43.9 load. Got semi good accuracy with the 44.5 but had the one flyer. All groups were three shot groups. Target was at 100yds.

Before I read the last of your post, I was going to suggest the 43.9 load. Nice shooting!

Thank you. I'd like more velocity but I'll take accuracy over speed any day shooting 600yd FTR.

I have a accurate load using 2000-MR that's my 1000yd load that was getting around 2750fps today. Shot it at 200yd and stayed within 1 MOA.

I have a featherweight barreled Savage that I started using 8208 in. I run at least 35gr and it shoots 52gr amax bullets very nice.:)

I'm glad you like the powder, I agree 4064 is a very good choice for the .308...

Two questions...
Is there any reason why you are using Magnum primers?
Why do you seem so concerned about shooting a compressed load?

I use them because I had started out loading for a 7mm RM. I use them in the 7mm RM and .308. That way I only keep one type of large rifle primer. No way to mix it up.

It's just a heck of a lot of powder in such a small space. Lol. Never done a compressed load. I could definitely tell the difference when seating a bullet.

1. You don't need to worry about a compressed load unless it's so compressed the bullet won't stay in place.

2. There was an article in Handloader magazine 2 or 3 years ago in which multiple factors were evaluated in getting accuracy in a 308 Winchester using Varget. The primer that gave the best accuracy was the CCI 250. That may or may not be different with IMR 4064.

I frequently try different primers in working up loads but the way your gun is shooting, I probably wouldn't bother. I doubt a different primer will improve anything.

I have to admit most of those groups make me envious. Beautiful work.

I've tried IMR4064 in 270. I've yet to get groups as good as your best ones, but I really like the smooth recoil.

Like I said in your other thread, in my Marlin it does awesome with a 165 grain bullet. But I have some 175 grain SMKs coming. I will have to give them a try in my bolt gun as well.

I just got 4lbs of 4064 and a.couple boxes of 175 SMKs for my 308... Perfect timing sir.... If I shoot some groups like yours, I will be doing back flips...

That's looking good. You'll have it narrowed down soon. The good news is one can actually find 4064 right now.

Well, I bought 1lb'rs from PV couple weeks back.. I got a few dollars in them, but I'm hearing it is a great performer in 308 Win..

Thanks for posting the thread. I just ordered a couple LBs from Recobs, along with 3031 for 223. Hope they work ok in 223, when I saw they had some in stock I had to jump up and rifle through Lyman49 to see if they were 223 appropriate. I dont know rifle powders like I know pistol since I just started bottleneck. (hadnt loaded one yet)

Nowadays if you dont order powder right when you see it in stock, it may be gone when you get back from researching it.
