I'm close to a trade on a nice 92, however, the magwell has been "opened up" by a previous owner. Current owner sent photos and it looks like the metal inside the grip is widened, but what means i'm not sure. I'm not sure it matters and the current owner states no issues whatsoever, but is this a replaceable part? I like things stock, no mods. The metal in the grip looks flared out.

No, the mag well is part of the frame.

And the frame is not a replaceable part unless you can get Beretta to replace it for a few hundred dollars.

But I doubt they will do it.

Right. He filed the opening of the magazine well to ease his insertions and speed up reloads. A common enough practice, but not stock, nor something that most folks who would want such a thing done would want to inspect and make sure they approved of how/where/how much was done.

At the very least it might be worth $75 off the selling price, probably more.

If it's a home-done bubba job it detracts value. If it is a well done smooth chamfer then it doesn't really effect much. If you want a stock gun, this one probably isn't for you. If this was done other things probably were done as well. On the other hand you may be getting a slicked up 92. I would ask to handle it and shoot it. Put the mag in halfway and see how much play it has. Drop mag and reload an empty a few times and see how smooth it is. Pull the slide and look for other tool marks that are not from the factory. Make your call based on what you feel with gun in hand.

I've lost count of the number of gun-owning acquaintances who've confided in me that, "heh, this one's not even REGISTERED!"

:)

Thanks. I've declined the deal. It worried me. And good point about what other mods have been done. Something else will come along.

Keep in mind that some models of Beretta 90-series pistols come stock with a beveled mag well. The few off the top of my head are the M9A1, the Elite models and the 92G-SD. The M9A1 and 92G-SD frames also have a picatinny rail, and all 3 of them have front and backstrap checkering instead of the standard grooves, so if it has a rail or checkering, it could be a factory bevel job. If it's a standard non-railed frame with no checkering, than a beveled mag well is most likely an owner modification.
