Hi, I am looking to buy the SWR Octane. I did a search of the product and it looks like SilencerCo has an Octane line too. Are SWR and SilencerCo the same company? If not, do each have their own line of Octane suppressors? Please shed some light on this as I want to make sure that I am buying the correct product. Thanks.

They're the same company: Silencerco bought SWR a few years ago and merged employees and manufacturing, but for a while they kept them as separate entities with separate websites and separate product lines, using SWR for their more conventional designs and Silencerco for their more innovative designs. For example, when I bought my Octane 9 it was still considered an SWR silencer; it says SWR on the box and it has SWR in big letters on the tube. But it also says Silencerco in smaller letter on the tube. And the Form 3 was from Silencerco, so that's what it says on my Form 4.

As recently as last year, Silencerco reps were saying they were still still planning to keep the companies as two separate design philosophies (even though the employees and manufacturing had been completely merged for a while), but sometime towards the end of last year I noticed that they merged their websites and they seem to have gotten rid of the SWR name altogether. I wonder if silencers that used to be sold under the SWR name are still being made with SWR on the tube? But it doesn't really matter; it's still the same silencer no matter what company name they put on the tube.

I worked at an 07/02 FFL/SOT for two years, and I was able to really examine which pistol silencer I wanted to buy. And I decided on the Octane 9; I think it's the best pistol silencer on the market, hands down.

Thanks for the information. I figured it was probably something along those lines... the companies merging or buying one another out. I can't wait to purchase my Octane suppressors. Thanks.

That's weird. Buy competition out then not even sell their product eventually? Wouldn't that be like Walmart paying billions for
Kmart and turning the Kmarts into Walmarts and then just closing the converted stores down? You have one less competitor but
you had to pay them off to make them go away.

No, when Silencerco bought out SWR they kept SWR's product line. Then last year they incorporated the SWR product line into the Silencerco product line, but they didn't get rid of any of them in the process. Now they're all sold under the Silencerco name.

In my opinion, the SWR product line was better than the Silencerco line (for the most part), so they would have been making a big mistake if they had gotten rid of it.

Yes I was looking at adding this one to the collection too. Silencershop has it out of stock at 550 usd but they get regular stock. My local dealer doesnt have it in stock, but a dealer less than an hour away has it for 800 usd and wont budge at all. Im tempted to have silencershop F3 it to that dealer just to show how Im saving a couple hundred dollars. But knowing myself, I dont like wasting time, and will just cough up the extra 250usd.
