.357 DPX Questions

I like the heavier weights in shorter barrels.

Speer makes an excellent 135g short barrel bullet. The front is VERY open. It looks like a flying trashcan. If you want some sort of expansion from a snub that is where I would look.

I've shot lotsa' .357's in 2 1/2", 4", and 6". I prefer a 140gr. HP in what ever brand.

I've shot a lot'a critters with the above and I see no practical difference (inside of 25 yrds) in expansion between 2 1/2", 4", or 6" barrels. A 140gr. HP works very well indeed.

Not to heavy, not to light a 140 will get you through the night. (sorry could not resist)

I don't have an answer for you regarding the Corbon ammo. I use 140 grain XTP bullets at the moment, but I have started to transition to the 158 version. I also agree with Redbullitt about the Speer bullets. Very open design, when you can find them.

It is the same Barnes bullet as used in several 140 grain .357 mag XPB offerings. I don't think the DPX line uses the 140 grain bullet. However, you might make a direct comparison to the Barnes VOR-TX load of the same bullet, which is advertised at <1200 ft/s out of a 4" barrel. The BB version I talk about matches these velocities out of a 2.25" barrel. Federal loads it hotter. Buffalo has a hotter version as well, but I like the reduced velocity low flash version.

I prefer this load to the 125 grain bullet, and believe it will do well in a snub if you are looking for penetration and expansion > 16".

Barnes will tell you that this load, as with all the XPB line, was engineered for hunting purposes. It is my belief that this is a branding decision. It should be useful for a variety of purposes, but would not be my first choice for hunting.

It shoots a couple inches high in my Sp101, but is more controllable than the 125 grain .357 version.
