my first 9mm work up is looking like this....

115g Berrys RN
COL 1.120
Unique starting 4.4g up to 5.6g

Does this sound SANO?

Thanks,
Dave

Like what?

Not seeing anything past the 4 periods in the first sentence?

Man you're fast! it took me less than 2 minutes to edit my goof and you were already in there. Sorry about that, somehow i posted before i was done typing.

Thanks,

5.5 grains Unique, Berry 115 RN, at 1.120" will be the sweet spot!

I use that in a S&W Model 39, a SIG P6, and a XD-s.

Just like factory loads, & puts the brass in the same pile!

I shoot 5 grain Unique with a 125 grain conical nose lead bullet. It is a great shooting load. I like Unique in 9mm better than any other powder I have tried.

I have some loads left over that are around 4.6 grains of Unique. The remainder of my 115-grain loads are around 5.4. I have recently switched to 124-grain loads to maximize my powder though. Your loads sound fine.

I shoot 9mm with Unique...worked up some 115 gr. loads and 124 gr. loads as well. Settled on a 124 gr. flatnose behind 4.8 gr. of Unique seated 1.125.

Yer in the ball park with your 115 gr. bullets but I think you may find the 4.4 gr. Unique load minimal in that it may not fully operate the slide on all autos.

Load 'em and shoot 'em!

Unique is great for 9mm and quite forgiving. I have used RC's load, 5 grains with 124 gr at 1.120 and 5.5 at 1.120 with 115 grain. I also use a tame and accurate load of 5.1 at 1.155-1.160 which is a little more accurate in the Glock 17. You can probably run anywhere from 5.0 to 5.6grains, and in lengths from 1.120 to 1.160. I have not tried the top load in 1.120, but have tried 5.4 which was OK. Many load higher than this, old time books show a few loads that make me wonder.

With the 115 grain you can test/work up higher loads. I have done 5.7 with no problems.

9mm IS a high pressure load that CAN pressure spike quickly with certain loads and powders. Unique gives a little more safety in my opinion, as it doesnt spike so quickly. That said, I am sure you can blow a gun up if abused.

The 124 grain X-treme hollow points work very well at 1.110 or so with the same Unique powder load.

Looks like I'm on the right track here. I was a little concerned how much the cases were filling up as I didn't really want to be compressing the powder.
Thanks,

Unique is really fluffy and a higher volume powder...which I personally really like. Makes a double charge virtually impossible as a case simply will not hold all that powder. It also gives sufficient fill/volume in the case that it doesn't slop around in there and leave a lot of unfilled space or settle in the case.

I really think Unique shines in 9mm, .32, .380 etc. It like higher pressure and the "new" Unique seems scary clean for me especially in 9mm. Shot 200 rounds and didn't find enough residue to really warrant cleaning the gun. I did anyway but was amazed at how clean things were even with my Wife's new .380 and hand loads.

Call me out of fashion, but I love Unique. At the last gun show, my powder guy kept bad mouthing Unique, saying it was made out of the waste materials from other powders and so forth.....at least 5 people approached and asked if he had any Unique during this conversation. The running joke at one of my local gun shops is that all the guys who liked Unique have died off! Well, I love it and have been lucky enough to lay in a good stock, and recently too.

I have been using 124gr xtreme hpcb with 5gr of unique. I am running out of unique. Its hard to find but thats nothing new to you all.

When it comes to hand gun powders, Unique & Bullseye are like Salt & Pepper in the kitchen,
....you can have a whole spice rack full of other seasonings, but salt & pepper just plain work good on everything.

Unique=flammable dirt. But accurate fammable dirt!! I could live on Unique and Bullseye, reloading wise for handguns!!

hmmm

Now there is a man who doesn't know what he is talking about. He evidently has no sense about how propellants are made nor about their composition.
There is a special reference canister of Unique that was made in the 1890s by the Hercules Powder Company. I assume that it has traveled with the company as it has changed hands over the years.
It is stored, sealed, under water. Every now and then a small amount of it is taken and tested against the current manufacture so as to maintain consistency.
Waste products indeed??

I agree with you but this guy actually worked for a number of major powder manufacturers and is knowledgeable, I think its more the fact that there was no Bullseye, Unique, Titegroup, power pistol and so forth and he was down to Accurate No.2 and a few IMR powders that many are not familiar with. I still thought it was hilarious that all during his diatribe people kept walking up asking for it. I dont care what its made out of, I like the stuff. Missed the 8 pounders that Powder Valley had for a few mins a day or two ago. Search diligently, buy immediately. In the past year, I have bought 2 eight pounders but it is tough...goes fast!

I shot my work ups yesterday with the unique and all rounds shot pretty well. The low end load didn't eject quite as well the the others but did function. The load I settled at is the exact same powder charge as my .45 ACP pet load, ain't life good?;)

I would suggest you read the article at http://www.laflinandrand.com/page2.html. The guy you talked to sounds far from knowledgeable.

I'm down to about 17 pounds of unique. :uhoh:

The newest stuff I have is still in a cardboard tube from the 80's

It's the only powder I use for handgun. I have used it for shotgun and am probably going to have to if I can't find any clays soon :banghead:

compress it and don't worry. I asked the same thing.

I have been running 5.1 of Unique with Berry's 115 gr, my wife's XD loves it. I tend to be conservative on my charges, because I am conservative and paranoid, a little bump from there is probably a good thing.
