His new job it taking him from Oragon to Maryland . He does love the shooting sports. He has the Oragon cpl. I read the Maryland cpl laws I just don't understand them.

You have a better chance of being attacked by a Polar Bear AND a Grizzly bear on the same day.

You can barely by a handgun in MD, much less get a permit to carry one.

If he can, tell him to stay in Oregon.

I love the Chesapeake area around Maryland. I spent most of my weekends down there.

That said, I hate their gun laws. Maryland is a ''may'' issue state. They may stop laughing long enough to tell him, ''forget it'', or they may not....lol.

Who was the famous fiction writer who applied/begged for a permit/license/permission/dispensation to install a shooting range in his house in Maryland?

Whatever became of that?

I've lived in Maryland all my life. Stay in Oregon! Seriously. When our family situation permits, we're going to GTH out.

Lots of people who work in Maryland live in Virginia or Pennsylvania and commute. You can just about forget about carrying in Maryland, however.

Maryland, like many states, has an urban/rural split when it comes to guns. Western Maryland and the Eastern Shore are conservative and pro-gun. But the population is concentrated in Baltimore and the D.C. suburbs, those areas are liberal and anti-gun, and they rule the state.

Tom Clancy. I think he had a range on his property in Calvert County; supposedly he was going to build one in his house in Baltimore, but I don't know if it was built before he died.

Maryland is a beautiful place and Baltimore is one of my favorite cities, but gun-friendly it isn't. I used to spend a lot of time there, but I lived in Virginia for a reason.

We lived in Maryland for years (25+), moved to Texas for a short while, and when we returned to our old jobs in Maryland, chose to live in Pennsylvania.....we just couldn't bear the thought of living in Maryland again. Although it's a long commute (75 miles one way), it was our choice and we could have moved closer to the state line which would have brought our commute down to around 55 miles.

As it is, we own a farmette in Pa and have our own shooting range on our property. Maryland can stick their antiquated gun laws in their (r)ear!

Maryland is a "may issue" state and that says it all. My sister lives there and has been considering moving to VA due to this and some other issues. You have to demonstrate "need" in Maryland to get a permit. Hence it is a who you know and how deep your pockets are kind of deal in many cases.

There is a small but active die-hard shooting community in MD, but they have a tough road. Until recently, MD had pretty strict, repressive gun laws, and almost no possibility of concealed carry. MD did ALMOST open up the carry situation a couple years back, and a whole lot of people ALMOST got their permits.

But then the most recent round of new legislation has made gun ownership VERY onerous. This was finally the "last straw" for several of my shooting pals who've finally fled the state for PA or VA. (As I did myself a decade ago.)

Ironically, there are tons and tons and tons of shooting opportunities (ranges and competitions and thriving shooting sports groups, clubs, and associations) throughout the region, especially in the adjacent parts of PA, VA, and WV.

For some folks commuting into MD from across the state lines in those states is a workable possibility.

I left Maryland in 1997 and I will never go back. Half of my collection would be against the law now!! If your job is taking you to MD try to move to PA or VA. Maryland is one of the most unfriendly state to gun owners.

funny. I was pulled over once in Baltimore late at night while doing some DD duty with my sauced up coworkers. The cops more or less told me to get the hell out of that part of the city quickly and sent me on my way. They didn't even get out of their patrol cars until four police cars had set up a perimeter around me. This was only about ten minutes outside the inner harbor.

If guns are so hard to get/carry, what is everyone so worried about????

Lived and work in md. Moved to PA. Got my CC in 24hrs here in PA. MD issue is a court process. Judges and hearings...blah blah. Basically if you don't transfer large amounts of money or weren't violently assaulted multiple times. You can't get a CC on MD

I went to elementary school in Baltimore. It was a new school and we studied hard, but that was the '50s. I like Baltimore, but anyway...

Nancy D'Alesandro Pelosi, now from California, is from Baltimore. She learned politics at her daddy's knee.
Her father was Thomas D'Alesandro, Jr., a congressman and mayor of Baltimore. Her brother was mayor of Baltimore from '67 to '71.

All Democrats.

Then we moved to the D.C. burbs - Montgomery County. More Dem liberals.

Remember Spiro Agnew, Nixon's VP? He was another mayor of Baltimore, but he was a Republican. There's just something about Maryland politicians. Probably something to do with the old steel mill and dockworker unions in Baltimore.
