Maryland rant -- jump in, the water's boiling

FL permit is easy to get

esp. if you are a veteran (like me :D - no further proof of training needed). The big hurdle is then to get the fingerprints at the MSP barracks closest to your house, and then you're pretty much set.

If you live in MoCo, for some fun, be sure to (subtly) let the old guy with glasses who screens the FP waiting line at the Rockville MSP office know why you are there (like showing him the pre-printed FP card when he asks, so he can see the "purpose" box says it's for the FL CCW permit.) Hee hee - I didn't know people could turn that red.

As for MD being ground zero on the firearms front, that is so true. Many DC-based gun-grabber types (and many of their PR wing in the WashComPost ed board) actually live in MD, so they refuse to let the issue die in their home state. However, they are still fought back by the MD firearms owners alliance (picture the Rebel Alliance holding back the Empire).

As for "leaving" as the answer, that would be the worst thing. Ben Cardin (one Dem candidate for US Senate) is going up against Kweisi Mfume in the Dem primary here. Cardin has been preaching a "moderate" view as the only way a Dem can beat the presumed Repub candidate Michael Steele (current Lt. Gov.). Mfume would get trashed if he ran in the election against Steele.

Why? Because there are more Dem and independent "moderates" in MD than there are fringe Democrats - - moderates who will vote for a center-right Republican over a wacko-left Democrat. See the last MD governor's election for an example . . .

Every person who abandons MD because they don't like the left fringe's influence is giving that little bit more power to the left fringe.

K-Romulus made a great point; one that many in these confined states (NJ, CA, etc) frequently make and is overlooked by the free states of the U.S. : Maryland is a prime trial ground for the worst gun laws you can imagine. When something bad passes here, it's only a matter of time before other states start adopting the same legislation.

So as small and insignificant as our state may seem, everybody should pay CLOSE attention to what's going on here.

Oh, and send me money so I can continue to miss work while attending legislative hearings and visiting representatives :neener:

As a lifelong MD resident and an acquaintance of most of the MD posters on this thread I think Standing Wolf (the non-MD'r) gave the best advice. I've been to many of the hearings in the last three years of on gun stuff. I'll never give up, but I've been researching a few gun-friendly states to move to. Family and jobs make it difficult to move.

It ain't just Quinter, it's ALL of the Montgomery, PG and Baltimore legislators. They also control the majority of the votes and always will.

Hope springs eternal.

See you in Annapolis!
