I have been wanting to attend an appleseed shoot since I first read about one a few years ago and finally am going in August. I bought a new Marlin 795(because why not get a new gun:D ) and have all the pieces coming to make it into a LTR. Going to pick up some elbow pads and a heavy duty

We are on a budget and I blew my hobby wad on the new AR15 I just built (and love) but the wife gave me the green light to do the project and i just had to work OT to scrape the extra money. I am hoping that I can do rifleman on my first day then I'll take the AR for the second day. I have been told I'm not a bad shot and just need a little refinement.

The wife goes on business and training trips each year and I am hoping that the appleseed can be my yearly trip from now on.

I know its a few months away, but I'll keep you all posted when it comes time.

Have fun. Sight your rifle in before you go, at 25 yards.

Get some low profile electronic muffs so you can hear range commands and not have it clunk against the stock.

Do you have peep sights yet? Highly recommended.

I used the M1907 sling. If I were to take the course again I'd use the green web sling instead. Our instructor couldn't figure out how to put it together.

You don't happen to be going to the one in New Philadelphia, do you? I'll be there at the end of August for my first Appleseed. Looking forward to it.

It's harder than it looks. The transitions and being on the clock make for a challenge far in excess of just being able to shoot 4MOA. The 795 is a fine choice, it is what I used to earn my patch. Don't be discouraged if you don't make Rifleman on day 1, or even if you don't make rifleman your first time. Soak up some of the history along with the marksmanship skills. Enjoy it, it's both great training and important history.

Something I've been wanting to do as well. A low ammunition stock has kept me feeling reserved about it, but might do it this year as well. I'd be using a Ruger 10/22 with the Tapco AR-type setup, since that's what I have. My Glenfield 75 (pre-68) would probably tag along as backup (unless I decide to bring the M&P Sport I just picked up yesterday.)

Enjoy!

Enjoy! My nephew and I attended a 3-day event over Memorial Day. We had a great time. It was well-organized, fun, safe, informative and very helpful.

Take plenty of water, snacks, lunch, elbow pads, and at least 2 mags (one of which needs to be a 10-rounder). We were covered, so sunscreen wasn't a must-have, but otherwise, take that, too. Be sure your rifle's sighted in at 25 yards (though you'll get plenty of opportunity to get sighted in there), and familiarize yourself with the practice of changing mags efficiently.

We were the only ones using a 1907 sling, as I prefer it over the USGI sling. If you do use a 1907, be sure you know how to install and use it beforehand, as it's likely the Appleseed instructors won't be able to help you with it.

Agreed. I used a bolt gun and was running out of time on the seated & prone rapid stages because I was trying to get the perfect shot off. The secret is being "good enough" quickly, rather than slowly perfect. Once I figured that out, I made Rifleman with room to spare.

I've got the tech sites ordered and they should be here about the same time as the marlin. I also am getting the sling that appleseed sells on their site, no 1907 one for me, not on this rifle i will probably pick one up for my AR sometime later though.
