AK 47s no longer cheap in Iraq

The Krinkovs and SBRs like the Zastava M 92s are ideal in close quarter home defense. Theres some in the pictures.

If a truly free market was allowed, Americans and people anywhere in the world would be able to sell and ship guns/ammo to regions like this where they are needed the most, and people are willing to pay for them. They would not have to beg to get them supplied through State channels.

interesting that weapons are not allowed, but there's a weapons market, and they lift restrictions only when they think they're about to be attacked.

i wonder if someone from Harvard consulted with them on their national defense plan

I hear ISIS banned all firearms in areas they control, except for members of the loyal militia, of course.
$1 a round for 7.62x39mm? Well, well, well, I guess the shoe is on the other foot now. Interesting that they believe they have to have superior American weapons to "inferior" badly maintained AK clones. Interesting indeed.

the AK vs AR debate is really just an american armchair/internet discussion. it's pretty well settled everywhere actual fighting is going on.

HOLY CRAP those are some expensive guns.

And...

"I could buy an RPG in Iraq" stuck out too. :)

Wonder what those cost??? I'd love to shoot one, once.

I once had the opportunity to shoot one at a cow for $200. However, I decided that it was probably not wise idea to play with explosives and blow up animals (Karma is a bitch) next to a mass grave several days travel from a decent hospital.

And just to beat a dead horse a bit the ak47 is superior camp has its roots in the Vietnam war when the ak47 was a better tool for the job than the M16. There have been a ton of improvements to the platform since then.

Also I would imagine most of the guns being traded in Iraq by civilians have seen several wars and might not have been maintained like our safe queens.

With $ 1 asking price per one AK 47 round, thats pretty hefty price. With so many rebel groups in Syria and Iraq needing to feed their guns, no wonder the demand outweighs the supply chain. It will only get higher as things get worse.

and yet here, they are going for $450 and .30 / rnd

Of course ISIS bans firearms in areas they control.
They also ban alcohol, tobacco, uncloaked women and white doves.
All forms of tyranny act in exactly the same manner...

But who booby trapped that one? The round came straight out of the case (which was lying nearby.)

Our take was, lousy quality control in some state-run armory.

Those aren't supposed to arm in the tube, must have been a bad rocket motor, or faulty fuse.

(Or maybe some GI got a REALLY lucky shot off before it launched!)

Germans built some really good fuses. I'll set my sights higher, at a panzerfaust. There has to be one or two left in the world somewhere, right? :D

NVA artillery and mortar rounds were also known to just bury themselves or skip across the ground without detonating due to bad fuzes. Remember the motto of Soviet design technology "perfection Is the enemy of good enough".

I wonder if the author misspoke(wrote?) and meant to say 1 Iraqi Dinar. In which case it would be around .85 ¢ American. Still a bit high for bulk ammo, but war torn country and all.

Trent,

What would you rather fire, a Panzerfaust or a Panzerschreck?
