I have been trying to think of a list of affordable 9mm pistols and then trying to buy one of each and then doing a very in depth review and torture test of each as funds allow. The qualifications are that the pistol must be in 9mm, and under 350ish. Nothing else matters. Cost and caliber are the only things I am concerned with.
My list as of thus far
Hi Point 9mm http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/.../products_id/48302/Handguns/Hi-Point+Firearms

EAA Witness

SAR

Bersa BP9

Canik 55

Zastava 9mm's

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...07484/CIA+HG3208-N+Zastava+M88A+8+1+9mm+3.78"

Diamond Back 9mm

Now at the moment this is just an idea but I think I can at least start with the Hi point and do a real torture test to one. Then work on gettin the funds for the next least expensive and torture it and so on. If you could give me a list of the more affordable pistols you know of in 9mm that are around 350ish

I would never trust anything made by Bersa in the Argentina child sweat shops!
Just my two cents worth. Kel Tec and the S&W VE series are much better made and made in the USA.

I'd Take a close look at the SCCY offerings, made here in the USA, a forever warranty that goes with the gun, street price where I live is $250.

I have two, both models and like them both, one has over 1,000 rounds thru it.

If you wish to go real low end in price there is also the Hi-Point, also made in the USA, also has a forever warranty that follows the gun. I bought one on a whim about a month ago and so far am really surprised. Goes bang every time and is more accurate than I am. Some claim it ugly????, whatever that means, others claim its heavy, those folks should weigh their other handguns for comparison.

I got my Ruger 9E for $359 out the door. It's worth looking at.

Also a nod to the S&W SD9VE and if you can find a new Ruger P95 (my shop has 3 brand new still so they are out there). The Tristar and Canik CZ clones are supposed to be good too for money, if you want to test one of those.

Buy a 3'rd generation Smith and Wesson . Quality , reliability - an EXCELLENT value. Why mess with High Point?

Quality used is way better than cheap new. Hi Point? No.

Agreed.

There are some absolutely outstanding values on the used market better than some of the inexpensive new options.

Bersa makes fine guns.
Don't listen to that nonsense.

Maybe they can teach S&W how to make a trigger again.

How about a Walther PPX for $280. They are kind of hi point looking but they get very good reviews.

I kinda get that, but not exactly. You ever see two girls and think "You know, I can kinda see where they look similar, but one's hot and the other is not.".

Basically the same there. They share some aesthetic similarities, but overall the Walther makes it work and Hi-point doesn't.

The purpose is to test these guns, to see if what they are capable of.

How about a Walther PPX for $280. They are kind of hi point looking but they get very good reviews. The also have a promotion where get an extra mag, a holster and a mag holder for $10 shipping. I ordered one and I will get it next week. Here is the gun.

If the normal price is above 350, I am going to have to pass. Though I may pick one up for personal use, I probably won't be including it in this test.

Normal price for those tends to be between 300 and 350. I don't think I've seen any time recently that you couldn't find one for less than 350.

S&W SD9 should be on the list, saw them for $299 at the last gun show.

Agree Taurus PT-92 should be on the list too, usually under $350 new around here and IMHO the best Taurus makes.

I bought one of those PPX two weeks ago. Paid $300 for the threaded barrel model for use with a suppressor. Would have had to pay close to half that for just the barrel for any of my other guns. It was a great deal in my opinion with 3 magazines, holster and magazine carrier.

If Bersa's 9mm's are anything like their 380's they should be nice guns. Sure, my 380 isnt a highly refined top shelf piece, but it functions very well, has a pretty dang nice trigger, and didnt break the bank.

I agree with finding something on the used market. In the $300-400 range you can find truly outstanding pistols like the Beretta Cougar, Smith & Wesson 3rd-Generation, or Smith & Wesson M&P.

For new stuff, I like these guns for bargain + quality:

1.) Ruger SR9E - Essentially an SR9, which is a reasonable well-proven design and very comfortable, for about $330-350 New

2.) Smith & Wesson SD9VE - Better than the old Sigma. Mediocre trigger but well built and reputedly reliable, for about $310-330

3.) Stoeger Cougar - It's the Beretta Cougar with a slightly worse finish. It's made on Beretta machinery using proper Beretta/MDS magazines by a Beretta-owned company. About $370-410

The Walther PPX is a proper Ulm-manufactured Walther, so I don't doubt quality, I just can't get past finding the thing as ugly as sin.

I've seen S&W M&P Shield 9mm for as low as $329. Easy to find at $359. IMHO, it's superior to any 9mm mentioned here.

As a carry gun, yes. But the original post didn't mention that the gun had to be for carry, and a lot of the guns mentioned here are much better than the Shield for home defense / car defense / hip carry / range shooting.

LoL because so many are ignoring the purpose.

My PT92 was in that price range. I think RIA might make a 9mm in that range as well.
