At the Normal, IL Kroger last year it at been robbed at gunpoint twice so they hired an off duty cop for security. It happened again and the cop shot him several times, turned out the dude had a BB gun and was later found not guilty by insanity. No charges against the cop but his dept let him go after the incident.
I was trying to quote post #14 when I left this as a possible explanation on why they changed views on armed security. I think the cop should have gotten an award.
