On the Remington 870 Express...

I have had my 870 express for over 15 years with out a single problem. My brother and I were both given one at the same time by our father and neither of us have had a problem. For a while we were pretty heavy into skeet shooting with them too.

I have a 870 Synthetic stock with both barrels vent rib 28in and 18 1/2 I have had it about 15 years I started having ejection problems this year after shooting it quite a bit. I ordered a new ejector from Brownells for $9.00 and it took care of the problem.

I've got three 870s - including one I bought used that still has the patrol car number written on the forend with wite-out. Other end is a brand new tactical I bought this year. Never a lick of trouble from any of them.

Well, other than the fact that they will go through a butt-load of shells.

The 1980s era Sportsmen Semi auto and Pump were basically reduced cost versions of the Model 1100 and 870 Wingmaster.
Apparently my typing and eyesight are declining.
Yes, I meant S58. And I read Sportsman, then Sportsmen in your post.
Guess I've had better days. ;)

Got an express tactical a few years ago. The one with the hammered finish grey powder coated finish. The powder coating on the reciever started flaking after the first firing. The rust showed up a few weeks later. But that's it for problems. Functionaly it's been flawless. I had my cousin duracoat it a two tone black and od and that solved it.

I've got two express 870's & one wingmaster , no problems at all . The wingmaster is 55 years old .

Remington Nitro 887 12ga....

I'm looking into a new 12ga left hand 870 Express pump. I saw a decent price & a "make offer" deal online. :D
If I were right handed Id look into a Remington 887 Nitro Tactical 12ga. The price is low for the features & Ive read-seen mostly + reviews.

Remington's QC with ammunition has been iffy with me but I'm willing to see if the shotguns are better.
Note; Remington has a special rebate offer on new 870s too. I think it's $25.00(it was $30.00 in 2013, ). See the site for details.

Wasn't the 887 Remington's attempt to produce a Benelli Nova of their own?:D

No issues here.

I bought mine from Walmart in the early to mid 1990's. It's killed all manner of game in MS, TN, SD, and AR. Summer heat and humidity, winter snow, rain, ice, mud, thickets, in and out of trucks, 4-wheelers and blinds...it has never missed a beat. If you told me I had to go fight the devil himself and I could take only one gun...the 870 Express would be it. Not sure what load I'd use for taking down Satan...but I'd figure that out on the way.

I have no idea how old she is, bought it off a guy at work that needed the money nearly 10 years ago. I added the extended mag. Never a problem.

Don't own one myself. Mine is a Wingmaster.

But, at a company skeet shoot about 17 years ago, two gents that had never shot before showed up with brand new out of the box Expresses.
Both jammed up with a shell (or was it a hull) in the bore. They had to finish the day shooting a loaner.

Swore I'd never own one. But maybe Rem fixed their problem?

I'll let u know in 2 weeks. Purchased one on Black Friday and will put 200 rounds at the range when I pattern her and shoot trap with mi son. By the way no 870 express will ever rust if u use plenty of Brake Free CLP. I live in south Florida and I bathe my guns in that stuff. Never a problem.

I bought a used 20 ga. youth Express with the 21" barrel and shorty stock, only replaced the plastic magazine follower with a stainless.

Couldn't ask for a more handy shotgun, it's light but yet it thumps with 3" magnums, fast to get into action especially in thick brush. Installed a saddle mount and red dot sight shoots rifled slugs for deer.
