OK not my 1st time loading I just want some input, I have alot of some old win.473AA supper-handicap and want to play with some lite loads in a 336 marlin I cast my own lee c309-150-f gas checked H2O droped LLA lubed or H.F pc'd boolits.Does any body have a load they like in the cat sneeze department with this powder?
Thanks CC

473AA is kind of a a oddball powder. So I don't know if anyone will have direct experience. Take a gander at the link below for info on using pistol powders for low velocity rifle rounds. Caste lead bullet are the only way to go. I'd load up a few cases with 5.0 gr of 473AA and go from there. Check for squibs after every shot. Know how to read signs of both HIGH pressure and LOW pressure. For example: a low pressure .30-30 load will usually result in a backed-out primmer. Don't expect bug holes at 100 yds. Good luck and be safe.

I have used Unique, 2400, Red Dot, SR4759 and more recently Trail Boss for light rifle loads (and probably a few more) but never that shotgun powder. Sorry I can't help with a 30-30 load but I think you can use it in handgun ammo.

You may want to jump over to the "Cast Boolets" forum. Spelling is correct.

They do a lot of weird things over there including duplex rifle loads that I'm not a fan of.

Someone there may have tried this with a 30-30.

The old WW 473AA was used mainly for 12ga shotgun back in the 70-80's. I used it along with 540 (HS6) and 452AA for shotgun loads back then. I have never seen any rifle data using it.

Good luck on your quest.

I was lucky to aquire a 10lb keg of this. It's by far my favorite 45acp and 38 special powder.

I achieved awesome results with 4.4 gr for 158gr 38 special using xtreme bullets, and the same load for. Some powder coated 230 gr 45 acp. I'm still working on a load for 9mm. I'll eventually work them over to rifle loads once I burn through my unique.

I agree with Kernel, try a few rounds around 5grs and work up or down from there. Check for pressure signs, and dont forget to bring a rod of some sorts to dislodge any squids when working the load.

Report back with your findings. :)

IIRC, Richard Lee's "Modern Reloading" has some info on using IMR 4350 for reduced loads in many .30 caliber rifles. Right now, I'd kind of like to figure out something to enable my brother to make use of some 85 grain JHP's and FMJ's we have left around from loading 7.62x25 ammo for 30-30, 303 British, or 7.62x39.

Thanks to all for your input. There are plenty of loads over at cast boolits(correct spelling). I settled on 5.1gr. it's perfect for the back deck range.
