Got 3 rabbits with my .17 HMR last weekend. Two head shots, and one in the chest. No meat damage at all even on the chest shot, and they dropped right on the spot. Getting slow cooked, pulled and covered in some sweet and spicy mustard. Great on a bun.

I use the 17HMR on squirrels. Headshots only as any body hit makes a mess of the meat. The 17HMR shoots flat out to 100 yards so guessing holdover is a non issue.

Well, not exactly the same game, but I smoked a jack rabbit last Sunday with my .357 mag. snub., 158 gr. Gold Dots, full house charge of 296, ain't no edible meat, unless you like em already pulled and shredded.

But relevant to the 17 hmr, I've shot a few cotton tails, and it is a nice option for such. It also works well for coyotes for those wanting to sell the hides.

Rabbit and two squirrels with a .22 air rifle. Should have had two more of each but too slow getting out of the car

 I'm extremely jealous. Haven't seen one rabbit all season
Don't feel bad. I only got 4 rabbits all season. When I saw a rabbit I didn't have a suitable gun. I had 5 coyotes on my place that were eating the rabbits. Scrap fried chicken and stale biscuits led the coyotes to their death. The coyotes ate good for about 2 weeks until greed got the best of them.
