Just ordered a 9mm Shield. Waiting on good ol 10 day waiting period here in California. Before I am able to pick it up in a week and a half, I'd like to get a case or maybe just a half a case of good quality hollow point ammo and prefer not paying $1 a shot. I saw that the IMI 9mm has too hard a primer for some subcompacts. Any other recommendations? This is my first 9

My 9mm Shield has eaten every round I fed it. Probably 10 different brands/type combinations. Not a single FTF/FTE issue.

The first thing I did with my Shield 9 was to run 115 grain, 124 grain, and 148 grain ammo in ball, truncated, and hollow point through both mags, with aimed fire. All ammo functioned well, and shot accurately at 40 feet.

You won't find that kind of performance with a lot of guns right out of the box.

Care & feeding of the M&P Shield....

For my new no thumb safety Shield 9x19mm(produced & test fired in Springfield MA on 11/14/2014, :D ) I chose the Speer Gold Dot short barrel 124gr +P HP. It offers decent balliatics & is designed for proper expansion in short(3-3.5" semi auto pistol) barrels.
I considered the Winchester PDX1 +P 124gr 9mm JHP & the Corbon PowRball 9mm load. They were good but the Speer Gold Dot seemed slightly better.
Some CCW holders & home owners use frangible or pre-fragmented rounds in back up guns or 2nd guns like the M&P Shield.
I'm not completely against rounds like Glaser Safety Slugs(silver), DRT, MagSafe SWAT, etc but don't expect them to function or work as hyped all the time.
Be aware of your state or area's gun & use of force laws. Some handgun rounds are not legal in every US state or city, :uhoh:.

Id add there are a few decent ballistics & ammunition tests on sites like YouTube.com .

Able's Ammo of Texas...

Do not purchase any items from Able's Ammo of Texas. :cuss:
They are awful.
I learned my lesson with just one order.

Ammunition Depot is good. I got my Winchester Ranger T .45acp 230gr +P with them. SGammo.com is well run & organized. ;)
I ordered a few boxes of Ranger T/T Series 127gr +P+ JHP 9mm from SG Ammo a few years ago. I had 0 problems with them & would buy ammunition from the firm again.
