Ok So I decided to do something a little different this time using a AR-10 Pattern platform...I am about 90% complete ..im just waiting for Mcgowen Precision to finish my barrel..they are currently 3months out..I used various parts to make up the build..The only things that are matching are the Aero Precision M5 lower/upper and .BCG with forward assist serrations...It is chambered in a .338 Federal Caliber 8" SBR using a pistol length Gas system..I will report back as soon as I finish it with a range report and video..Here are a few pics of it with his friends..

I'll be interested to hear if you have gas problems. Pistol length gas is always a good choice for really short barrels, but I have no experience with .338 Federal or SBR AR10s.

Definitely a very, very cool project, though. Useful? Maybe not. But definitely cool.

I wanted a semi large caliber with a lot of power output in a compact package that will out perform the .308 cartridge overall and would not over power the chamber pressures that the AR10 platform would not be able to handle..All that being said.. The AR-10 platform was my first choice..While Doing some research, the .338 Federal is a SAAMI standardized round so i know it wont be going obsolete anytime soon and I like the fact that it is using the 308 as a parent case ....Price is around $19.99-$45 per box of 20 on the web and some of my local gun shops have them for around 17.99 per box ..Recoil also isn't a huge difference between the 308 and 338 federal since it is not a magnum cartridge..I also like the fact that this round can be used in all standard 308 mags including all 25round pmags and lancer mags also the Xproducts 50 round drums..I will do some chrony testing to see how much velocity I may be loosing ..im assuming somewhere between 300-500 fps ..Ill make a range video of its performance and also a table top video review when it is completed and report back here...I bought an adjustable gas block to fine tune it ..I know more than likely it will be needing it....Here is a comparison pic between the .338 Fed and the .308 Win

What are you gonna use it for besides being cool?
autoloading flashbang platform

nice cartridge BTW... splits the difference perfectly between the 308 and the 30-06 while maintaining 308 form factors in a factory load. only downside is that you don't have $.50 plinking ammo. :(

Are you sure you need a stamp? I thought flame throwers were non-regulated :D

Seriously, let us know how it goes.

lol..I don't know how much more of a flame it will throw vs my SBR 50 Beowulf in the same pic above..but I will sure make a video when I go to the range and you guys can be the judge for yourself..just as an example ..here is my 50 Beowulf in full auto without a flash suppressor ..

thanks for the link JeanClaudeSegal, I especially liked the bit with the Irishman's automatic rifle at the end!

Yes I did..i was gonna go with that caliber originally but a few things caught my attention that changed my mind..First thing was the cost of ammo compared to .338 federal ..1 box of 358 Winchester is almost double the amount of a .338 federal..Secondly the .338 federal has little more velocity but can hold the same bullet weight in the parent .308 case..Also I haven't found a lot of .358 Winchester in my local gun shops..i can usually find 338 federal at Academy or my local gunshops at a decent price..Balistically they are almost the same except the .358 is a slightly larger bullet mostly designed as a close range heavy hitter..If I ever choose to use a AR-15 type weapon as a close heavy hitter..i usually carry my .50 Beowulf SBR loaded with 350Gr Solid brass spritzer rounds for that type of situation..
