Im about to purchase a Colt LE6920. Is there any other AR manufacturers that I should look at before purchasing this? I looked at Bushmaster but heard the Colt was much more solid.

Can anyone recommend any alternatives and if so, why?

Thank you.

PSS- Please dont tell me to build one. I dont have the tools or knowledge of doing so.

Bravo Company Manufacturing and Daniel Defense if you want more bells and whistles. Otherwise just buy the Colt.

As a guy who has used both Bushmaster and Colt as a duty weapon, get the Colt.

Other great companies are Daniel Defense, BCM, LMT, KAC, and Noveske. Though those companies will range from a little more expensive to a lot more expensive.

In the same price range as the Colt you have the "plain jane" BCM and the Sionics rifles.

There is nothing wrong with the Colt at all though. It is the Gold Standard by which al other are measured.

FYI my list are of fighting rifles. If you need a varmint gun there are better options.

Colt AR

For the price....buy the Colt.....been shooting, competing with, instructing and working on them ( armorer) AR's and M-16's since they were introduced.....have shot / evaluated a bunch of different brands..from both ends of the pricing spectrum...for my money at the price point the 6920 is....that would be my choice....have a couple of them.

The Colt is going to do everything you want it to without messing around. Buy the Colt.

I run a Stag (with the plus package). Haven't had any problems and would buy another. In fact I would buy any of the known mid-range brands (Stag, RR, Smith, Colt, LMT, etc.), with the exception of Bushmaster (apparently they are now owned by a different company, who "may" now milk the brand name with worse quality product. Not worth the risk)

As I understand it, there really isn't a lot to choose between any of them. Each has their own fanboy followers, as is normal with rifles. That isn't a bad thing but don't let it cloud your judgement if you see a good deal that contradicts their advice.

I NEVER heard of Daniel Defense and am now backing off from the Colt. The Daniel Defense looks like it has unlimited options!!!!!!!!!!! Can I buy from Daniel themselves and get them shipped to my FFL? I highly doubt the gunshop I deal with will inventory Daniel Defense firearms (order it for me). What model Daniel Defense is comparable or BETTER than Colts 6920?

I'd get a 6720 over the 6920.
I dont see a 6720 on Colts site..

So glad I just didnt pull the trigger on a buy without this post first.

I'm sure there are online retailers that sell Danial Defense do a google search. Another option is see if you can talk your dad into building it for you. You could pick out premium components and have custom rifle at a reasonable price. Not sure you'd save money overall. I've priced out AR parts several times, you can build cheap but I always get mission creep, nicer bbl, trigger, furniture...$$$

I HIGHLY doubt my father would build me an AR he dont like black rifles.. and shys away from them. He likes BIG BORE bolt action rifles. I KNOW he could do it though.. You should see the completely CUSTOM Ruger GSR he built/had built for me in 358 Win.

Light Weight, has a thinner barrel
I dont know if I like the idea of a "thinner" barrel.

Don't let the thinner barrel profile scare you, remember it cools more readily than a heavier one. You mentioned a few things you'd like to add, what are your plans for the rifle, what sort of specific optics, etc.?

Any accessory, rail, forearm, buttstock, tripod, bipod, toothpick, laser, light, you name it, can be bought and installed on nearly ANY AR 15.
There is nothing special about DD in this regard.

You mentioned wanting to put an optic on this rifle.

The DD rifle that you mentioned has a fixed front sight base. That is going to interfere with your sight picture. It will be worse with some optics than with others.

I would go with something like the https://danieldefense.com/firearms/mid-length/daniel-defense-m4-carbine-v7-lw.html

Or the:

If you buy a high quality optic you probably don't need backup iron sights unless you are LE.

GAMEOVER44,

I recommend the S&W magpul midlength M&P 15, I own one and it shoots 1.5 inch groups at 100 Yds with open sights from a field position -- I've fired 2500+ rounds without a jam.

Here's a review from "nutnfancy."
