Good point on importability F-111 John. Here is another good the G43 is significantly lighter than the S&W Shield (more than 10% lighter).
Looks like a decent carry gun--wish they had made it a 7+1. Not just for the extra round but also for a little bit more grip length.
To be clear, the Glock 42, which is .380, is not importable into the U.S. The 9mm Glock 43 appears to be importable.F-111 gave good info on the reason the Glock 380 is so big,
Mas made a podcast with Glock National Sales Manager Bob Radecki (http://media.blubrry.com/proarms/p/content.blubrry.com/proarms/089_Glock_43.mp3) and Bob said that one of the two G43 magazines will have a pinkie extension. (11:32 into the podcast.)Did he say that one of the included mags is extended?
Having my .380, 9mm, .40, and 10mm pistols all share a very similar feel and trigger pull is a big plus for me. When the G42 became available I sacrificed the extra power of my PF-9 9mm for a less powerful G43 .380 because having similar firing characteristics is more important to me. If I was an M&P shooter I would by a Shield, but I am not so I will probably buy a G43 that will often replace my G42. I don't see how anyone could doubt that Glock will sell a boat load of G43s despite there being many other comparable small 9mms.

I would have thought someone would open a new thread based on the actual release.
I went to Glock's website and looked at the specs. In essence Glock has released something very similar in dimensions to the Shield but with a shorter grip and lower capacity. Lots of offerings already on the market for this niche. So all the excitement is over....what exactly?
Well I get that, but given all the hype both here and in other blogs, like Michael Bane's, and at the rate is expected to sell I thought it was going to do something better than the existing choices but it looks like it is smack in the middle of the existing pack. It's quite simple....the fact that it is a Glock. This is a gun that Glock fans have wanted for several years now. And considering how many Glock fans there are, it will sell very well.
The G43 is our new single stack 9mm pistol. The G43 is the most highly desired and anticipated release in GLOCK history. Designed to be the favored back up or last resort option for both civilian and law enforcement use, this subcompact slimline design is the perfectly balanced answer to your everyday concealed carry needs.
Yeah, I don't get this.Hmm, I think I can deal with the extra .18" of the Glock 26 in exchange for nearly double the capacity...
How much are you saving in weight and size that people are waiting to go back to single stack?
In t-shirt and jeans, yea, flatter than a J frame, holds more ammo, more powerful, about same weight, easier to shoot. Faster to reload to boot.Yeah, I don't get this.
The gun, I mean. I don't get it. How much are you saving in weight and size that people are waiting to go back to single stack?
Yea but you're giving up 4 rounds for 0.15748 inches of flatness and a 2 finger grip.In t-shirt and jeans, yea, flatter than a J frame, holds more ammo, more powerful, about same weight, easier to shoot. Faster to reload to boot.
I carry a 26 daily but in the hot Texas summers, something flatter is desired.
