Lately I've been hearing/reading alot of talk about how important a good gunbelt is. I've got a VM-2 on the way, and I'd hate to think I'm not going to get the full potential out of it by using a normal belt. Does anybody have some gunbelt recommendations? I would prefer leather but I am always open to other suggestions.

Thank you

Kevin,
I'm sure this thread will be moved to the "Accessory section", however my two nicest belts and holsters came from RafterS. Shark skin at a good price.

Well, I have always like my Galco belt that I've had for years. Double thickness and pretty stiff for a stable mounting of the holster. Word of warning though, a lot of holsters made for 1 3/4" belts have slots that are a little too small work with the belt. Some are a prtty tight squeeze but some others won't work at all. My other prefered belt is the Wilderness belt. Mine is the 1 3/4" OD green 3-stitch CSM model with a polyethylene insert for extra stiffness. Mainly I wear it on the range but with the air base up here military style belts are a pretty common sight so I can get away wearing them off the range and not being suspected of packing. Yeah, I know I'm lacking a belt for formal dress occasions however I try to avoid formal attire like the plauge. :barf:

I have one of the Dillon 1 1/4" gunbelts, and it is very rugged. You can carry a heavy gun and barely feel it. A good solid gunbelt is a necessity for comfortable all day CCW carry.

I got my belt from Kirkpatrick Leather and have been very happy with it. If I remember right it was less than $50 with shipping. I'm not sure if they have a web site but their number is 800-451-9394.

There are lots of serviceable belts out there, of varied materials, from many different makers.
I've owned many. Few were badly made.
HOWEVER, if you want the best gunbelt made, AND one that doesn't look like a "gun belt", but more like a dress belt, get Lou Alessi's.

Not trying to highjack the thread but has anyone ever used the belt you can get from Brownells? It is made by Helweg International.

There are many suppliers for good belts, you need a sturdy belt to support the weight of your gear and to hold it securely. It's important to have the belt loops on the holster match the width of the belt for best results. A belt that's cut on a contour will be more comfortable to break in, and avoid the "V" shape and related stress that straight cut belts sometimes develop.

if your on a budget...

you can try wallmarts heavy duty work belt, i've found them in black and brown, double thick leather seem to work well for me.

Lou is the MAN!

Full width belt skivved at edges and tapered down if front for comfort & stealth.

Not to mention handmade & uncompromising true Old World Craftmanship.

Another vote for The Wilderness Tactical 1 3/4" Instructors belt for casual wear. For leather dress belts, any of the usual suspects that make holsters and belts should have something that will work for you.

Another vote for the Rafter S belt. I have a sharkskin that I"ve used for almost a year now, carrying a Kimber Pro Carry HD in a Milt Sparks VM-2.

Been real happy with both.

I have a buddy who has teh same setup except a Sparks belt instead of Rafter, he's been happy with his too.

I get mine at a local shoe repair place. Good craftsmanship, comes on a roll so you can get just the size you want. Stiff and a good anchor for any style of carry. About half what the holster makers charge. I like supporting the local businesses too.

Rafter S

I have set aside my Mitch Rosen gun belt in favor of two Rafter S belts, in black sharkskin and elephant hide. They are fully equal in quality to their predecessor, with better materials used at the same price. Rafter S belts have seven holes spaced 3/4" apart, resulting in finer adjustment over a similar range compared to the customary five holes with 1" spacing. I am very pleased with my new belts, and will buy more exotic gunleather from Steve and Della. My only wishes are for them to bring out crossdraw and shoulder holster designs, and to accommodate a greater variety of handguns.
