Nevada has dropped 2 states from CCW recognition but added 12 others.

Michigan and New Mexico were the states that were dropped. They were dropped because they don't communicate with NLETS which is the interstate system that lets law enforcement and criminal justice agencies access a wide range of information, from standard driver license and vehicle queries to criminal history and Interpol information.

As a Missouri resident, we never publish CCW rosters or such and the last three times I've been out there (parents retired in Henderson last year) I go the civil disobedience route and conceal while I warm to open carry.

Well darn, looks like my 10 FBI background check clearances, TS clearance, multiple state handgun clearances, and current WA and FL and OR licenses are not good enough.

This patchwork that is updated and changed frequently really needs to end. We need a universal drivers-license type that is reasonable, with a minimal fee ($50) and simple application and 5-year renewal process.

Or better, constitutional carry.

Here's what I see;

There is a conflict going on within the state. Remember, the reasons they invented to drop Utah and Arizona, were that one doesn't require a shooting test, and the other has a different validity than NV for their permits. The REAL reason was, they don't like tourist carry. I said repeatedly at the time, these aren't reasons, they are excuses.

Fast forward to now, and suddenly those reasons aren't important anymore, are they? None of these states are being added or dropped because of the lack of a shooting test. BTW, on the Utah side, I have a couple of friends who have their ear to the door on the negotiations, and the holdup with picking Utah back up, is we have a law forbidding the disclosure of permit holders and their info. They are trying to work out a way to let them have access which satisfies their requirements, but doesn't break our laws. They almost did it this year, they will likely do it next year.

I think this indicates a shift in their state makeup, that the NGC doesn't have hard control of all of these decisions anymore, they have changed their decision making process.

A couple of years ago, I applied for an AZ permit through the mail, because I had a Vegas trip coming up, and I wanted to be able to carry. While I was waiting, NV dropped AZ. But now they picked AZ back up again.

Here is a case where reciprocity appears not to be based on "good sense". Indiana? Ok I get that. A background check is all you have to do here and our License to Carry a Handgun is lifetime. No education. No practice. No test. I get that. But some of these other states have much more criteria. In those cases, the only reason for Nevada not honoring them is some political feud with that state over some probably unrelated manner.

Begs for federal constitutional carry/reciprocity.

What ever the reason NV dropped NM it is not because of NLETS. I called NM DPS and they confirmed that they are members.

I won't spend my money in a state that won't recognize my WY CFL.

OTOH, NLETS, owned by the 50 states, not the federal government is one of the best LE tools out there. With so much world wide travel, and criminals hiding out in foreign countries it's CRITICAL that all of our LE have access to interpol data, and that interpol have access to U.S. data

I wouldn't spend my money in any state that didn't cooperate with NLETS.

That is one sorry list - I am sure there are "reasons" for all the states left off (looks like the ones with the largest numbers of permit holders, among others), but no valid reasons in my book.

I lived on the Nevada border for many years, and I used to go there gambling several times a month for long periods over the past 40 years. I have always liked the state in general and never had any reason to have a beef with them...

But that has now totally changed. I do not know what kind of game they are playing, but in my mind it puts them in the same category as New Jersey, D.C. and Illinois. Yuck.

Don't give up hope. I called the Nevada DPS and found out the reason they dropped New Mexico (it may be the same reason they dropped other states but I'm not sure of it) it seems that New Mexico requires each police department get official permission from the NLETS system before an officer can access an individual data. I also contacted the New Mexico DPS and asked if they would look into it and maybe something might change. It is hard to imagine that a simple phone call from me would cause a change but we can hope.
