I have a .44 mag on order... (A caliber I don't have)....But am itchin' for a new handgun in the meantime (range use... Don't need another carry gun)

give me me some ideas... I'm searching GunBroker and Impact Guns and Aimsurplus, etc, etc trying to get inspired... I'm going to my fav LGS(s) next week

I have several brands but no Sig... Maybe try one?
I have never owned a Glock... Maybe I'll learn why the Glock lovers love them?
I like revolvers of all types and enjoy pistols (that doesn't narrow it down much)
I like military surplus and new model guns too
I reload
I shoot at the range (both inside and outdoors)
I'm not a collector... I buy 'em to shoot (and some I carry)

Thoughts? No idea is too crazy... All brands, makes, models, barrel lengths and calibers will be given consideration.

I need to get something in my head so I can search, shop, deliberate and have fun acquiring

I'm somewhat set on my preferences, Ruger DA's in .357 & .45LC and HK's in 9mm. In that vein my two newest acquisitions are awesome, a Ruger Match Champion GP100 w/ adjustable sights and a HK VP9 LE with night sights. Both are tremendous shooters, nice triggers & sights, very accurate and "Best of Breed" examples of type IMHO. Either or both would be a wonderful addition to most any collection.

Beyond that a couple others that caught my attention lately are the Wilson edition Beretta 92 and the Sig P220 in 10mm. The Wilson edition Beretta especially strikes me as a potential heirloom gun.

Maybe a 1911, if you don't already have one. A Browning Hi-Power would also make for a great addition to any gun collection. As for revolvers I have always wanted a Colt SAA and a S&W Model 27 with a 5" barrel.

If it's for the range, I see no reason to get a compact model. Maybe a Glock 17 or 34 would tickle your fancy. The Glock 21 is a personal favorite of mine. It's a blast to shoot, and the platform handles the .45 perfectly recoil wise. If you want to go metal frame, you could find a Smith 39/59/52/645/whichever you like the prospect of most. Maybe a CZ? A nice .22 pistol with target sights and a long bull barrel?

Seems to me that if i were to spend half a thousand dollars on a firearm i would research and fire what appeals to me not what others are happy with. Leave the wife home (or hit a fabric shop or two with her) and check out the local firearms retailers. Look but do not buy until you have had time to evaluate, this advice is freely given as i tend to be more an " impulse" firearms procurer. However I do not suffer from buyers remourse on any of my purchases, trades or gifts to others.

Lots of great ideas... Let the shopping begin :)

I've got a 1911 or two (ruger and a ria), and a SAA replica or two (pietta and cimarron) and a CZ75D PCR I love... but the Beretta 92 or Glock ideas are good... I have an indoor range that rents just about anything and I may give those a try

Any classic P-series Sig - P228, P229, P220 or P226 in SA/DA w/ SRT. The original polymers - SP2009, SP2022 & SP2034 are great too and a little cheaper. Don't be afraid to buy used, either - a spring kit is less than $25.

I enjoy re-loading and shooting my 32 caliber revolvers the most. From 32 S&W Long to 32 H&R Mag to 327 Fed Mag. There's a power level for whatever type of plinking you're in the mood for. From the loading perspective revolvers give a little more flexibility than your run of the mill 9mm or 45acp autoloader.

Also from a cost perspective I was casting and loading my own 32's for less than 22's were going for (at times) in the past couple of years.

I'm all for getting a Sig also, I would do that before Glock. I started out with many Glocks but once I got my first Sig those glocks started getting shoved to the back of the safe.

I've never been in a position where I thought I desperately needed a firearm and did not have a clue as of what to get. Has always seemed to me folks that ask others on social gun forums to make their choice for them are trying to please those others and not themselves. Generally the responses to "what gun" is a flurry of "get one like mine!" as those others try to validate their own choices. Man up. If you've been searching the internet already and have not seen anything that trips YOUR trigger, why do you think what trips someone else's is the right choice for you? Do you always hold the opinions of complete strangers in such high regard?

Sorry, I ain't trying to dis you or be a downer. But buying another gun just to own another gun you have no desire or need for is just a waste of monies. Buying one just because someone else finds it cool is vain.

I like ideas... Things (guns) that may interest me that I haven't tried yet.

Like that Ruger 45 someone posted... Never would have thought of that...

Do you own a Ruger Mk I/II/III? If so, do you have a Smith & Wesson Model 41?

IMO the Model 41 can really push Shooter skill and ammo accuracy to the limit. Likewise, I find the Mk III Hunter really makes me push myself to a point of pursuit of extreme accuracy, and the work I do on it has carried over to other calibers for me personally. I also like how if a scope is added to a gun such as the Mk III it kind of bridges the gap between handgun and rifle, and provides kind of a unique challenge for mixing things up at the range. Also, since you just purchased a .44, this might help offset the high ammo cost you are about to have to deal with.

If you are not looking for a carry gun and interested in Glock, the Glock 34/35 are awesome guns that don't get talked about enough IMO. A stock 34 with a lighter trigger configuration and the right sights is super accurate and a really fast gun for speed shooting and stress shooting exercises.

You sound like you have the budget for one of the best. An H&K P7M8 (or P7M13 if you really have the funds). Rare, indestructible, very accurate and unique. Even shooting it regularly you will likely recoup your purchase price - should you ever make the mistake of selling it.

I don't know exactly what you already have or don't have, but I love my Ruger GP 100. I have the six inch barreled, blued edition. I payed 550 out the door for it. Other than adjusting the sights, I have not modified the gun.

The gun brings so many fun assets to shooting and all purpose farm use. I shoot it fast in double action with .38 handloads. I sometimes will have friends pick far off targets and cock it. I will soon have time to mess with speeds and powders with it as a .357.

Practicing with it in double action brings a whole other mix of fun and confidence to all my shooting. Being hard to describe, it's heavy and stable, it has added some verb to all my gunning that I was lacking before.

It also is a tool of total amusement. I'll shoot with random people who own 9 automatics and no revolvers. They will pick up my gun and shoot it, their first time they will produce tighter groups with it than they do their own guns. They will then explain to me that they don't shoot revolvers well or they would buy one, one of the many things I have given up on understanding a long time ago.

I also like having it with me out in the country. During the 3 or 4 times I have been approached by random large dogs on my own ground, the gun helped me relax. Not that I had to or wanted to shoot them, but something about blade sights and a longer barrel feels natural for me.

Outside of your question on side arm suggestions, when friends of mine ask me about my opinion on their next firearm purchase, I usually push reloading equipment if they do not already.

If you don't have a glock... you said you were a gun guy, right?

I'm assuming you already have a 1911.. every red blooded American gunner should have one of those. ..and you should have at LEAST one or 2 revolvers, & some autos as well.

But no glock!!??! :what:

That redhawk is great, & you can get it in 45acp AND 45 colt for a double whammy. Its fairly new, but a great pistol.

All anyone really needs (in pistols) is a 9mm auto, a 357/38 revolver, a 45acp 1911, a 44 mag, & maybe a 45 colt and/or 45acp revolver. Anything beyond that is just opulence... ;)
