Was thinking about a cap and ball pistol but now I kinda want a partner for my Uberti 5.5". Thinking about a charcoal blue with fake pearl grips. What does everyone else have?

Pietta 1873SA with color case-hardened receiver. Change the walnut grips for fake pearl and it could look pretty snazzy.

Beretta Stampede with case color frame, blued finish, plastic grips, and a 5 1/2" barrel. It's chambered in .45 Colt and is a pretty decent looking SAA. Will post a photo when I have access to my computer.

You didn't say authentic SAA clone blue32, so as they say in SASS; if it ain't the way it was, it's the way it should a been. :p

Mine are the basic Pietta gloss blued cylinder and barrel with the usual fake or otherwise Italian version of color case hardening on the frame. And some very basic wood for the grips.

It's up to you of course but for me blued guns are best when wearing some snazzy grained wood grips. On the other hand nothing looks as pimp (in a good way this time) as nickel or polished stainless wearing fake ivory or some nice stag horn grips.

These are all I have decent pictures of.

EMF Hartfords, 5 1/2" 44/40s.

And US Firearms Single Action Armys, 5 1/2" 38/40s.

Unless you wanna count that Thunderer, 3 1/2" 45 Colt, there in the front of that "pile-o-guns".

Howdy

OK, I'll play.

Here is the only SAA clone that I still have. Uberti/Cimarron Cattleman, 45 Colt chambering.

Sorry, can't help myself. Here are my CAS Main Match pistols, a mismatched pair of 2nd Gen Colts. Top one was made around 1975 IIRC. Somebody stripped all the finish off the little one before I bought it, it is not as old as it looks, it was made in 1968.

And this fabulous old 1st Gen Bisley Model chambered for 38-40, made in 1909 IIRC.

Sorry, couldn't resist.:)

P.S. Think long and hard about that Charcoal Blue Uberti. They are beautiful, but the finish is not very durable. I used to have one. After less than a year my sweaty palm had completely erased all the blue off the backstrap, turning it to a dull gray. A modern blue will hold up much better.

Not really a Colt "clone" (I hate that term) my Ruger New Vaquero in .45 Colt. No longer have the gun, bought it for the stag grips.

Took the grips off and replaced them with the black plastic and sold the gun like this:

Then there's this original Vaquero:

Also a .45 Colt.

And a Uberti .45 Colt Flat Top:

And another Uberti, a .44 Special from Cimarron:

I bought this Hy Hunter .357 Magnum on a lark one day:

I did a little work to the Hy Hunter, addeded a brass trigger guard from a Uberti and a brass backstrap from a Hawes Western Marshal, then made a home made set of one piece grips from scrap walnut:

That's about the extent of my "clones."

I love my clones...my favorite guns.

Pictures aren't great as the pool table is not the best backdrop.

I own a pair of Cimarron "Evil Roy" competition model P pistols in 45 Colt. Absolute pleasures to shoot and look at. The trigger is perfection.

Driftwood, I have an identical twin to your 1909 Colt Bisley but mine is in 32-20. The letter to mine shows it shipped in Jan of 1909 to a hardware store in St. Louis MO.

Sorry no pic's, but I also have a Great Western Arms Co 5.5" in .45 Colt. Dates from somewhere in the early .60's. Interesting history of that company too.

Sounds like you're talking about the Frisco model. I really like them and think their faux pearl is really nice looking. Not like your typical polymer pearlites. However, it's worthy of note that it is true that the charcoal blue is not very durable, it's because it's not really charcoal blue. I wish they had given it another name because it leaves some folks with the impression that it is the same finished the original guns had and that it is a very fragile finish. What the import makers market as charcoal blue is actually nitre blue or fire blue. It is in no way the same finish used on the original guns and is derived from a totally different process. Real charcoal or carbona blue (not to be confused with S&W's carbonia) is an expensive and labor intensive process. Real charcoal blue is actually more durable than modern hot salt blue. It has a slightly blue hue, not the peacock blue of fire blue and not the deep black of hot salt blue. Here's what real charcoal blue looks like, contrasted with fire blue screws.

Thanks for clearing that up CraigC. Really nice pictures everyone, thanks.

Maybe I have a thing for long barrels...
Single six 9" isn't really a clone but is built in the style of a SAA. The 15" Armi Jager buntline is my baby. I need to finish the rebuild though, I'm adding ladder rear sight and still have to plug and rethread the ejector housing bolt hole.
