I recently gave myself a new Marlin .22LR bolt-action rifle and have been wondering ever since what would be a good scope for it. I am mostly a pistols guy, so this would be the first scope I'd purchase. The intended purpose would be target practice.
What should I be looking for? Which...
If you like the Beretta, also consider Taurus PT92. Essentially identical but less expensive, no problem with magazines, and also has some features which I like more, e.g. the frame-mounted safety and the utility rail. Also, Taurus has a lifetime warranty like Ruger, while I don't know if...
PT92 is great. I really like the frame-mounted safety/decocker. Some protest that the accuracy is so-so, but mine is fine. Also, the PT has a rail and is less expensive than the Beretta. I got mine for $399 (new, stainless).
I tried a 317 on the range once. Nice little gun, very light, looks pretty. But, the DA trigger is ridiculously heavy and you have to be accustomed to shooting with a small handle. Also did not like the sights.
AFAIK, Rugers are cheaper because they are cast instead of wrought. Casting is less expensive but requires more material to achieve the same strength, ergo the bulkiness. There is also a lot of truth to what other posters pointed out above - namely, that other brands are overpriced. There is...
I've noticed that whenever I send my autoloaders to Ruger for service, they come back cleaned and lubed with some peculiar heavy lubricant with a distinct machine-oil smell. Does anyone know what this lubricant is and where one can buy more?
Thanks in advance.
Sorry but the above makes no sense whatsoever.
First off, Ruger is not a legislative body nor a law-enforcement agency. There is no way for Ruger to trample our rights. It would be better to channel your anger where it ultimately belongs - at the doorstep of gungrabbing lawmakers and the...
Well, at least he told her to put the tongue back in. That she could have her nose broken or her eye taken out seems a lesser concern to him. I guess we know which part he values the most... What a jackass.
Many thanks for the input.
After thinking about it a lot, I decided to go with Marlin 980S instead. It seems the Ruger needs a lot of tweaking, while the tubular magazine on the Marlin will eventually annoy me, and the semi-auto configuration has problems with stovepiping. Taking also into...
delta,
It sounds to me like you are just not comfortable with that gun. As others pointed out, if you can shoot 1" groups with another gun, you know how to shoot. The other possibility is that there is something wrong with the gun, but it is hard to believe that it would scatter so much and...
My recommendation is never buy something you have not shot with beforehand. There are many pistols that look good from afar, but once you put your hand on them and throw some lead downrange, you just know that "baby, it ain't meant to be". For example, I had that experience with Steyr, Glock...
I have not shot in a while, so when I went to the range today, it suddenly hit me how difficult to see the standard metal black sights are on my Ruger MkIII (5.5inch bull barrel, stainless). No, there is nothing wrong with my eyesight - I see the target just fine. But, the sights themselves...
CPshooter, your pricing is incorrect, at least in my neck of the woods. Here you can get a new P for a bit over 300, while glocks and such are well over 500. You can buy two used P's for the price of one glock or XD etc, and it does not matter that they are used because Ruger will fix any...
I always use snap caps for dry firing. They are certainly cheap considering they last forever and protect hundreds of dollars of a gun.
Two points I did not see mentioned above:
1) snap caps in autoloaders help protect the extractor. I used to loose the slide on an empty magazine, and so...
Good points about clothing and bones above. Remember that the human body contains over 200 bones of varying size. A gelatin dummy usually contains none. Also, muscle is much thicker, harder, and denser than fat. That's why I don't put much stock in gelatin results - at best they are a very crude...
Correct. I forgot to mention the lifetime warranty, courteous service, fast turnaround, and they even reimburse me for shipping expenses!
All due respect to CZ, but once I heard their warranty is only 5 years, I quickly lost interest in owning one.
75% of my handguns are Rugers, a...
