Try XD or Stay with Glock?

The grip angle is better on the XD, but the muzzle flip seems more pronounced on the XD. As for needing parts XD's do break. I had an HS2000 which is the pre XD. I had an extractor go bad, the locking block got a big chip out of it, the cocking indicator broke, and the grip safety spring broke. This gun was shot a lot though. The reason I got rid of it partly because parts availability and the fact that springfield would fix it for free if I paid shipping both ways which could get expensive for a part that might cost $10. I would still recommend the XD if you like it. Mark

I'm torn between trying a Springfield XD or buying another Glock. I'm intrigued by all the good things I've read about the XD. How difficult is it for someone familiar with Glocks to get used to XDs? FWIW I'm thinking about a XD Service 9.

at least give it a try you never know you might take to the xd more, sell the glock and get another xd.

i had an xd service model, bought a glock 19, sold the 19 and bought another xd i love the xd's and i couldn't be happier with the xd line.

Have you ever shot or handled an XD before? Being an XD owner myself I would recomend trying one. I love mine.

Stop reading and start shooting!

Personally, the only difference besides the looks is the trigger pull. XD is a bit strict, while Glocks are more flexible. You have to try one first.

It has been my pleasure to shoot two XDs--a .45 ACP and .40 S&W.

They are a nicely executed and very smartly marketed product. The grip is pleasant enough, but the bore axis sits high above the hand.

The quality seems fine, though I question the rear plastic slide rails.

I like the low center of gravity feel offered by the Glocks. Few guns offer this, and with my big mitts, the grip size is a non-issue.

Also, the repair network for the XD just isn't there--try ordering parts. Not that I've broken a Glock yet... ;)

More and more accessories for the XD are coming on line, so that's a plus!

If possible, try one first. Otherwise, what the hell, go for it!

there aren't any parts that i could want that i couldn't find on www.pistolgear.com, btw sa's customer service is top notch and they really take care of thier customers.

as opposed to the glocks factory plastic sights that have been known to come off at the most random times. or thier plastic guide rods and triggers!

Anecdotal...

While a .357 Sig and .45 GAP XD was quick to market, they've sure stayed away from 10 mm, haven't they? Don't they trust this platform to handle the mighty 10 mm? :scrutiny:

Hmmm. ;)

In my expirence, the angle of the the two guns in my hand is totally differant.

The XD grip angle is more like a CZ or a 1911 than it is like a Glock. That is one of the reasons I like them so much. I also like the trigger pull better and the fact that they don't use plastic sights. I've got at least 1200 rounds through my XD-40 Service without a single gun-related failure (I had one Blazer dud round). The ergonomics are great and the accuracy is probably better than it needs to be.

the xd grip angle is 13 degrees just like the 1911.

i have 6k through my xd service, and 2k through my xdsc.

including reloades, lead ultramax, umc, wwb, ameican eagle, and about a dozen jhp's from all the makers, and may more that i am forgeting.

A great man once said, "Glock perfection ends at the top of the slide!"

I've experienced zero failure in three Glocks with over 8500-rounds each. ;)

"why would hey do that? that might cause the first ever xd kaboom! :) "

:D

try the XD I have a .40 service bi-tone it shoots great and I never had a problem with it.I just ordered a XD 45 compact----Yes I like XD's

both are rather boring...

that being said I have sold my last XD, an XD45. Very reliable, shot fine...just felt very cheap, mushy trigger, poor finish...

I will keep a few Glocks. The G26 is a favorite. The finish and quality just seem far better than the croatian XD.

and please, lets not talk ergonomics and how they point. Just get a 1911 if you are looking for that...:)

just my .02

I shoot my Glock17 and Browning HP side by side without problems. So "getting used to" the XD should not be a problem if you really prefer it over a Glock. I don't, but that shouldn't matter much to you ;)

It's easy to transition from a GLOCK to XD as far as feel and shooting. I have owned both the tactical 9 and compact .45 in XD and had some "little" problems with both.

The .9 was a tack driver, but would not dependably cycle inexpensive factory target ammo. Numerous failures to eject. Also, after firing a couple hundred rounds, the striker retaining pin began to rise up out of the slide. It had to be re-seated and expanded by a gunsmith. Sold

The .45 failed to fully eject a few times in around 400 rounds. Also, the loaded chamber indicator on top of the slide stuck in the up position after the first couple times shooting. It was stuck so solidly, it had to be saturated in oil and driven back down with a block of wood and hammer. After shooting enough to heat the barrel up pretty well with the .45, accuracy noticeably diminished, though not with the 9mm. .45 Sold.

In both cases I told the person buying the guns what my issues were with them.

Not disparaging the XD in general-just my experience with my 2. But, I think I'll just stick with my GLOCKS for a polymer pistol in the future.

I recently picked up an XD for a good price to try. Initial impressions are it does point well, the tactical feels good in my hands- the service and SC feel off to me-. But aftermarket support is small, and what's there is still expensive in comparison to glock. And imho- the trigger sucks. Very long and heavy with a long reset. Sure it can be fixed for ~$140 but then your just spending more on it. Thats my $0.02

Depends on what you like...and your specific pistol may vary which may color your take on things but would be inappropriate to generalize to all the pistols of one type and make (and that's good or bad). Personally, I have had good experiences with my XDs and own four. By far and away I enjoy shooting the Tac 9mm. I did have SA do their Custom Cary package to it and sweeten the trigger a bit....but the longish travel is still there.

I have shot around 9K rounds through it, taken it to 3 pistol classes and shot one IDPA match with it. The only bobbling was around the 6K mark where there were some FTEs. But a changed recoil spring fixed that right up.

For the 4" service 9mm, I have probably around 3 thousand rounds through it...no problem there either.

For the Subcompact 9mm and .45 service less than a thousand each...and no problems so far.

Glocks are great guns, they just don't fit my hands as well...generally more stocky for my smallish hands and I do shoot a 1911 so the grip on an XD is similar.

I also had one experience in a defensive shooting class where a bottom portion of a loose shirt tail got sandwhiched between holster and pistol...and personally made me kind of appreciate that grip safety a little more.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but I think the XD is a more thought-out modern design. I think they are easier and more comfortable to shoot than the Glocks, but I like the Glock's lighter weight and smaller dimensions depending on the application. The Glock finish is also better than the XD IMO. XD gives me more shooting pleasure during extended range sessions for sure.

I've owned 2 of each brand, and I still couldn't tell you which one I like better. Glock and XD are both great, reliable, and accurate firearms! Can't go wrong with either...

I really like the XD pistols. I have no clue about a Glock. I have never even handled one.

They are both good guns. I think it is a matter of taste and feel. I went with a Glock 26 over the XD9 3" sub mainly because the little XD felt bulky and blocky. Their full-sized 9mm seem more well-balanced.
