...rifles. Several years ago i received a Traditions Buck Stalker rifle for Christmas. i installed a Minox ZV scope and loaded 120 grains of Black MZ powder behind a 250 grain SST bullet in the black crush rib sabot. That combination makes one inch three shot groups a 125 yards . My range...

Top Breaks, Break Tops, Tip-Ups, Show ‘Em if You Got ‘Em

John, The partial but not entirely satisfactory solution I found is to load 27-28g of what's left of my pound of Hodgdon Black-MZ. I top it with any 230g lead bullet (intended for 45 ACP) and the gun functions. I'm told the Black-MZ was just re-labled APP black powder substitute. It gives me a...

    Black Powder Cartridge Range Day

Worth a try. I thought APP was also discontinued. I had never heard of All Purpose black. But I'll research them.

    Black Powder Cartridge Range Day

Hello Johnm1, I've been shooting Black MZ in my conversion revolvers with no lube, and no issues. Of course Aliant discontinued the Black MZ, but one can still get Shooters World Multi Purpose Black or American Pioneer Powder. You might want to give them a try. AntiqueSledMan.

Maiden voyage of the 38 long colt hollow base ideal mold

Finally got around to shooting those black mz 38 LC loads, they had some thump to them! They were a very accurate bullet though the mz is nice for clean up I think the real BP loads will thump a little harder. I need to purchase a chronograph ad I have no idea what they were spitting out at but...

Maiden voyage of the 38 long colt hollow base ideal mold

Patched Round Balls and Inline Rifles

...round balls overlap. My favorite inline round ball shooter is the .54 TC Fire Hawk with a rifling twist rate of 1/38". Using 80 grains of Black MZ powder it makes a five shot cloverleaf at 78 yards. Bill Knight on firing patched round balls fired from fast twist rate rifles: Not Bill...

not sure about load of American Pioneer Powder

Yep. Same here. I'm using up some old Goex Pinnacle which is also the same. No lube needed, but in cap and ball revolvers I do put a dry wad between powder and ball.

not sure about load of American Pioneer Powder

Hello Cliff6, I shoot Black MZ (about the same as APP) in my cartridge conversions with no lube. There is no need for lube with this powder, it creates it's own. AntiqueSledMan.

Where is your powder made??? 2023 edition

To be honest, the last several times Finland had a Russian problem, it very quickly turned into Russia having a Finnish problem. The Finns are a very independent people. The last time Belgium had a problem - other than the occasional Frankish invasion and occupation - it was with anarchists...

Best blackpowder substitute for a tradiational muzzleloader.

...Shot. Clean Shot later became American Pioneer Powder. i've used all the APP manufactured powders. Currently have most of a case of Black MZ. Recently tried the latest APP powder called Shooters World Multipurpose Black 3F: 100 grain charges of Shooters World gives the same...

Best blackpowder substitute for a tradiational muzzleloader.

...to Triple 7, as it could be purchased locally. I've been happy with Triple 7, but in my Cartridge Conversion Revolvers I switched to Black MZ. Actually I purchased a case of the stuff from Sportsman's Warehouse when they were closing it out. It's about the same as APP, as it was made by them...

Best blackpowder substitute for a tradiational muzzleloader.

My brother runs a musket nipple on his White Mountain carbine. I will probably pick one up if I do switch to a substitute.

Best blackpowder substitute for a tradiational muzzleloader.

...ignite subs at all with a #11. Even with real black, it gets fussy after a half dozen shots. I picked up a musket cap nipple and it goes off without a hitch every time now, although I haven't been brave enough to try a sub. I like Black MZ/American Pioneer the best of the subs I have tried.
