The last time I pulled the shell stop was never...and you are correct sir it is gunked up. Scrubbed it with a breakfree soaked toothbrusk and then wiped it down with a clean rag, reassembled. Problem seems to have gone away.
I have an SLP Mark One that just recently developed some problems with the magazine tube. Rounds don't seem to go into the tube smoothly, I can't quite get the eighth (2 3/4") shell into the tube - it goes in up to the rim but no farther - and rounds do not feed from the tube. Rounds extract...
I didn't read the whole thread, so sorry if this is redundant advice, but, have you tried Evolution Gun Works? They sell steel feedramp inserts for aluminum framed 1911s (and I think Browning Hi-Powers too...)...
Sorry. I get sensitive about people assuming that I don't taken firearms training seriously. I wonder why you believe there are so many who haven't given the subject any thought? Personal experience? Let's hear it, it might be interesting!
I'm sensitive because I hear this sorts of comment A...
I think we all agree that it would just plain suck to have to shoot somebody, and that post-incident regret or second guessing can get us in trouble (either we second guess ourselves, or somebody in a DA's office armchair quarterbacks) and most self defense shootings, even if they seem clear cut...
Oh, I'm not LE or military at all. Not even close. My friend was killed subsequent to a robbery. That is to say, he gave the robber all the contents of his pockets and the cash register he was tending. Then the robber shot him three times in the face. I hadn't ever thought about owning or...
I had a little sick feeling the first time I went to a gun range and watched my neighbor make headshots on a silhouette target. I'd gotten interested in guns for defense after a friend got murdered - by an attacker shooting him three times in the head. Maybe a round bullseye target wouldn't have...
POA/POI variations in different bullet weights, velocities
Forgive me for not wading through all six pages of this thread. I have always used standard pressure loads fmj for practice, and tried to carry SD loads in the same bullet weight/velocity range not because of terminal ballistics, but...
I had a similar experience. I took a mini-14 (non-adjustable rings) to my gun range to ask for advice about mounting and sighting the scope. I was a complete beginner wrt rifles and firearms. One of the employees offered to do it for me while I watched. This range offers some gunsmithing...
revolver
My .357/.38 J-frame is nearly as concealable and much better ergonomically than all my "compact" autos - it fills my hand better, points more naturally and comes out of the holster (yes, OWB holster) and onto the target more quickly and smoothly. Simpler manual of arms, better safety...
Not acting on secret orders, but maybe acting out of either personal or institutional prejudice against "civilian" gun owners, which prejudice I'd like to see dispelled by education.
I'm pretty annoyed by it, actually. A valid CCP and a holstered gun = no real need to disarm you, nor any reason for the officer to fear for his safety. The mere presence of a weapon isn't a threat. I think safety would have been better served by leaving the pistol in the OP's holster instead of...
How about a "bump in the night" bag? Get a messenger bag or fanny pack or some such with home defense kit in it. Extra cell phone, flashlight, small first aid kit or bandanna (bandages), extra set of keys, maybe a small knife &/or multitool, pepper spray...and a handgun with speedloaders or...
I've heard good things about SOG tools but I like my wave. Four or five stars, easy, and it goes with me just about everywhere. I'd feel naked without it.
I've always and only used Breakfree CLP, but noticed some wear esp. on aluminum frame rails so I picked up some Tetra grease. I dried the CLP off the external barrel, frame and slide rails with a cut up t-shirt, then spread the tiniest amount of grease I could get on those surfaces, so they are...
finish
No, I haven't asked yet. I've been curious about aftermarket finishes for a long time anyway, and might well pay for one of the two mentioned even if I didn't have a problem with the finish on these guns. There is no pitting or really obvious orange streaks, but an oil dampened patch...
