I have quit using the expander on the powder drop method. Get a flaring die and mount it over the primer station. It puts a touch of flare on the case mouth only. The neck will stay much tighter on the bullet when seating, the bullet will insert much easier without cutting or shaving.
FLARING DIE
I have carpet in my loading room. I constructed a shelf system from 2X12 from floor to ceiling, and 12' wide. I "decked" half the room with the same 2X12 under the loading bench and across the room far enough to roll my chair and comfortably work at the bench. Pressed tightly together and...
During the shortage, Wolf was mostly still available. I started using them tehn, and have since switched to Wolf pretty much exclusive. No issues, they seem to shoot great. Thanks for the test results, it validates my experience.
I have had a lot more issues with UPS than USPS. UPS has lost 2 and turned a beautiful custom M1 into a folding stock model. All of them have their issues. Document the shipment, buy insurance to replace whatever you ship. The rest is just time to get it fixed when something bad happens.
I download my 44 mags using titegroup powder. It was designed for use in cases that are not full, and ignites very nicely regardless of powder position and fill in the case. Seems to burn great at 44 special power with my home cast lead or under full power with 300 grain XTPs in the nose cone...
Around here that will depend on what part of the range you are on.
On the 50 yard you see a lot of the EBR stuff. I almost never see another EBR on the 100 yard. I see more K98 and Mosin 91/30 than I see AR15 based rifles at longer ranges. It is very close to never seeing an AK at 100+...
Yea, I know that sounds like a lot, but I have a small gunshop that I run from my home. I have a dedicated shop area for customers and equipment. I also teach reloading and sell supplies, so a lot of this gets sold and replaced on a rotating basis. That said, if the SHTF, then these supplies...
Just running through looking at the boxes, I estimate somewhere around 80-100 thousand pieces of brass. Like said earlier, it's like a savings account. I pick up all I can at the range and wherever I shoot, if the SHTF - it's going to be the new money cause Uncle Sam greenbacks are going to be...
There is an instructor in Denton that advertises a 3 hour class, no shooting to get a CCW. No test. Basically just show up. He advertises the class as an easy alternative to the complicated Texas CHL license. That is my objection. As far as me bieng anti CCW? OK, let me clarify, I have a...
Most states have very stringent requirements for a CCW, and those states that reciprocate are finally starting to take a close look at the lax requirements and practically non-existent training and background checks required for a UTAH permit. UTAH instructors do classes in other states...
45 is my favorite round for defense. 40 is a good choice though. For value, the Taurus Millennium Pro is a good value and a good shooter. I have them in 9, 40 and 45 and they all shoot good. The 745 is very slim and easy to conceal. I personally carry a Colt Defender in 45, but that is...
I carry an officer sized 1911 Colt Defender. Easy to conceal, accurate, and carries a good punch. 45 ammo in all types of defense rounds is readily available plus I load my own XTP self defense rounds. I am a large guy, and carry in the small of the back inside waistband. Very comfortable...
If you plan on doing very many of them, get the 6 cavity mold. The 2-banger is really SLOW! When I sit down to cast I do 1,000 at a time.
I use the TL style, (TL452-2 OG)and love it. Get the sizer die anyway, you will get much better quality reloads if you go ahead and size them. Sizing...
If you plan on shooting a lot of 38, grab the 38 specials. They make great target rounds for 357 practice and can be reloaded dozens of times before discarding. I save my 357 brass for max powder loads since I don't get very many reloads out of them.
For mass quantity plinking loads I use Titegroup, it works great for lighter loaded rounds and burns great in mostly empty cases. My younger family members love to go with me, but do not enjoy the recoil of a full power 357 loads, so I load bunches at light 38 special level for them. I shoot...
I installed the 4 dollar blast deflector on my Loadmaster and use any kind of primer I can get. 100K rounds and no booms. The tray handles them very differently than the tube. In a tube, if one goes, they all go. In a tray, it is much less likely to cause a chain reaction. I have mashed...
