Thompson/Center Venture in .30-06
I've had incredible accuracy with mine out of the box. I got it at Bass Pro for around $450, no scope. It's an economy-priced Icon and it's very solid and felt better quality than the similarily priced Savage and Tikka. Pick it up, handle it, you'll see what...
Cool. I'm definitely interested in going to a class when I get back stateside. I've carried for a while, practiced extensively, with safety always in mind. However, I think it'd be neat to hear others' opinions/practices and also to see who else in my community carries. Might even find a new...
a simple slug-gun works too. a mossy 500 or rem 870 package comes with a rifled barrel. throw on a low power scope. now you've got a gun that shoot hogs out to 150+ yds, or small game and birds with the smoothbore.
heck, even the smoothbore works with slugs too :)
the face of the block was probably 12"x12". i was mindful not to put the bullets through the same track, but i understand the whole stressing thing. regardless, the semi-jacketed hollow points worked much better in the same test.
this really wasnt meant to be a scientific test. i created...
Updated test
glad to see people are still interested 2.5 yrs after the test!
i have since done another test: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=400286
like Steve C said, the soft points allow for expansion at lower velocities. i couldn't be happier with a self defense round...
Stoeger STF 3000 o/u 20ga
bought one at Dick's for around $300. was attracted by the price. safety doesn't work. it only keeps the firing pin from resetting after the first shot, so i guess it will keep you from accidentally killing 2 people, instead of 1. it's nice for target/skeet, but i...
Other. Got burglarized one fine night. Decided to arm myself incase it happened again. Just couldn't stop at one! Now collecting/shooting is my primary hobby. I guess things happen for a reason.
fired my first handgun (.357 mag snubbie) 12 times w/o hearing protection.
took apart my Mossberg 500 trigger assembly. had to pay a gunsmith to put it back together
used a pocket knife to unscrew my S&W 442, slipped, it now has a nice scratch filled in with black marker
bought a...
this rifle is built for acuracy at low cost, and it performs. i dont think there's any advantage in the .270. i've been told it's a flatter shooting round, but the ammo selection is much wider in .30-06.
here's my own range report in .30-06...
yep. lost a spring on a revolver just like you did. AND i took apart the trigger assembly of my used Mossberg 500 to give it a good cleaning. handed the gunsmith about 30 little pieces in a zip-loc bag. at least they're clean though. never doin that again.
i think they're Stoeger Uplanders. a decent brand, decent gun. i bought a Stoeger over-under 20gauge from Dicks.
the safety on mine, Stoeger 3000 stf, doesnt work. well, it will stop the firing pin from reseting AFTER the first shot is fired. so you can only accidentally shoot yourself...
yep! nothing's quite like pulling that godawful trigger for the first time.... pulling... pulling... BOOM!!! reload, repeat, pick the dried blood out of your nose, great day!
now get an AK! (just make sure everyone to your right is in a good mood)
my Thompson/Center Venture shoots real purty for the money. it doesn't come in .308, but my .30-06 shot sub MOA.

got burglarized in college, realized that if i were home at the time all i would've had was a knife. NO THANKS
I also had a job as a food delivery driver in college, worked nights, carried a knife, then decided to give myself a better chance.
now it just feels normal slipping the ol' 442...
